Role Summary

Manage the Magna Electronics Engineering facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance program; assess maintenance problems, determine need for large scale projects, and recommend proposals as appropriate; review maintenance plans and specifications to ensure departmental requirements are met; inspect work in progress and evaluate completed projects to control costs and ensure work is performed as specified; represent department on all related projects.  
  • Manage furnishings program; refurbish commons rooms and offices to accommodate employee requests while adhering to organizational standards; recommend furniture replacement; purchase furniture as appropriate; manage disposal of old furniture and receipt and placement of new furniture.  
  • Investigate damages to facilities, determine responsibility and assess charges for damages; assist in development of related policies; coordinate room inspections upon vacancies.  
  • Manage security and safety and ensure compliance with applicable codes and proper functioning of security and safety systems; recommend improvements; issue keys; ensure keys and door cards are accounted for as specified by department policy; change locks and replace keys and cards as needed. 
  • Prepare budget for service area; monitor and ensure adherence to budget; apprise supervisor of variances; evaluate and control maintenance costs; monitor and verify accuracy of charges against service area funds; authorize expenditures within budgetary limitations; assist in managing other funds as assigned. 
  • Prepare operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations and conclusions. 
  • Assign work to and monitor performance of assigned employees ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; meet with subordinates to ensure compliance with standards, practices and policies; train new personnel in proper procedures. 
  • Position requires occasional heavy lifting of boxes, up to 60 pounds

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, fiscal management, or other related area of study preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a facilities manager
  • Prior experience working with CAD, inventory management systems and other computer databases
  • Windows, Word processing and spreadsheet programs in facilities management applications. Position requires the ability to work independently and as a team player.
