Role Summary
The Global Category Manager is responsible for all strategic aspects related to electronics purchasing globally. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining category strategies that will support the technical requirements of the Engineering team, while ensuring the attainment of cost and quality objectives. The Global Category Manager will be responsible for the entire commercial relationship for all assigned commodities. The Global Category Manager will also be accountable for the quality performance of assigned global suppliers, as far as poor performing suppliers must be removed from the supply base or improved with the assistance of the Supplier Development Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiates contracts for each region (N.A., Asia, and Europe) by analyzing supplier quotations and selecting the best global commercial conditions.
- Work closely with the Engineers in each region, to help steer the component selection to preferred suppliers, and utilize this leverage to obtain direct accounts and competitive pricing.
- Will maintain an approved supplier list to be used by the company globally.
- Will be depended upon as the technical expert for Purchasing globally.
- Locates new sources of supply, and establishes new suppliers. Develops and maintains relationships with suppliers.
- Develops strategies and solutions to continuously improve cost levels, dual sourcing, stable sources of supply, high quality of commodities and other governing factors related to the Purchasing Department and adjacent areas.
- Leads continuous improvement activities for assigned commodities that may include developing programs to improve supplier performance.
- Studies market trends, and researches and recommends new product developments. Participates in continuous improvement efforts for products, tools, processes and programs.
- Lead for annual negotiations and contract administration for assigned commodities.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration or supply chain – Required
- Master’s degree in business or engineering - Desired
- Business Finance training – Desired
- Deep and comprehensive knowledge of product development practices in the automotive field.
- Knowledge of the application and delivery of advanced electronic systems into the automotive industry.
- Must be able to show evidence of expert problem solving skills as well as keen analytical abilities in a teamwork setting.
- Must be able to show evidence of expert knowledge in risk management.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of the Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC).
- Willingness to perform "hands-on" work.
