Responsible for the design and development of embedded software for driveline electronic control systems and components in C/C++ programming language. Working from broad specifications, not only performs, but is responsible for guiding engineering activities. Independently plans, designs and carries out work assignments and often serves as a technical authority.



1.    Designs and develops low level driver software including: 
•    Programming in C and assembly language for low level drivers, such as boot loaders, A/D drivers, CAN communications, diagnostics, etc. hardware/software integration, memory usage analysis, stack usage analysis, timing analysis and throughput analysis. 
2.    Develops software requirements specifications and software functional specifications, including:
•    performing requirement analysis, software architecture design and optimization, data structure design, and low level software requirement development, 
3.    Performs coding, unit testing, debugging and modifying of complex embedded systems software to ensure project objectives and schedules are met. 
4.    Coordinates and participates in software design reviews and code reviews. 
5.    Documents and archives software program releases in accordance with company software development process. 
6.    Works closely with a team of other highly skilled engineering professionals to solve cross functional design issues and deliver top quality products to the end user. 
7.    Provides technical expertise on embedded software to multiple project teams, assists in the resolution of product based technical issues. 
8.    Practice and maintain integrity while following Magna’s Charter and Constitution.
9.    Follow Magna’s Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies.
10.    Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (IATF). 
11.    Drive the development of new technologies to improve quality, efficiency and reduce cost.
12.    Comply with safety policies and procedures to ensure duties of self are performed in a safe manner.

  1. Basic knowledge in C, C++ 
  2. Bachelor of Science in engineering required, major in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  3. High level of analytical ability, understand of engineering theory and principles of design
  4. Working knowledge in computer-based software, strong organizational/communication skills, ability to work with others in a team environment.
  5. Some knowledge or background in software development and/or software engineering.
  6. Experience with Vector tools (CANape, CANalyzer) preferred
  7. Some experience with 16 and/or 32 bit microcontrollers preferred.


1.    0 - 2 years of automotive embedded systems software development and/or software engineering required (co-op or internship experience may suffice).
2.    Basic knowledge in software development languages (C,C++) required.
3.    Automotive industry experience strongly preferred.

Office environment; 10% Travel possible.


While working in this environment, the employee may be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by the manufacturing process.
