About the Role

The HR Specialist, Benefits & Payroll is responsible for administering the transition of payroll and benefits systems following a recent acquisition. The role requires a thorough understanding of benefits and payroll regulations and compliance, as well as strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. The HR Specialist - Benefits & Payroll reports to the Sr. HR Manager and works closely with the Sr. Payroll & Benefit Specialist, Corporate Shared Services Groups and HR & Finance Department.   

 

Work Locations: Auburn Hills, MI and/or Southfield, MI 

 

Payroll Solution: Dayforce (experience required)

HRIS Solution: Workday (experience preferred not required)  

 

 

Your Responsibilities

Transition Management
• Manage end-to-end payroll processing for the acquired entity utilizing legacy company instance of Dayforce as a standalone payroll solution.
• Coordinate with Magna Corporate Groups Benefit file feeds to ensure deduction processing for employees from the acquired entity during the transition period.
• Prepare and submit required payroll and benefits-related filings and reports accurately and timely.
• Support end-state transition to Magna Corporate instance of Dayforce & Shared Services model (2025+)
• Participate in systems implementations related to payroll by defining requirements, participate in preparing test plans, and documenting test results.
Payroll Administration:
• Perform payroll administration to include, but not limited to, weekly, bi-weekly payroll activity, payroll processing, and run and create related reports for (Canada, USA).
• Ensure accuracy of payroll data, including employee information, hours worked, and tax withholding.
• Resolve employee payroll issues and provide exceptional customer service to employees.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Benefit Administration:
• Responsible for ensuring payroll records accurately reflect elected benefit deductions.
• Partner with Sr. Payroll & Benefit Specialist & Magna Corporate Shared Groups to ensure Workday Open Enrollments and Processes are aligned.
• Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs, including leave of absence, accommodation administration, invoice processing and other day-to-day tasks associated with benefit plan administration.
• Support with Open Enrollment and wellness programs & events.

Who we are looking for

  • Proficiency in Dayforce and MS Office Suite, especially Excel. 
  • Proficiency in using payroll and HRIS systems; experience with standalone payroll solution. 
  • Proven experience 5 years in payroll and benefits administration, preferably in a transition or integration context 
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data to inform decision-making. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 
  • In-depth knowledge of HR practices, policies, and procedures. 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle matters of confidentiality discreetly and work with employees on issues requiring varying degrees of sensitivity. 
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.
