JOB SUMMARY:    

 

Direct responsibility for overseeing the daily operations of the Engineering and Maintenance departments.  Leads the engineering and maintenance teams by creating and implementing objectives, and implementing policies and procedures to ensure key objectives are met. Assists the General Manager and Assistant General Manager in maintaining a plant wide commitment that the highest quality product possible is manufactured.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provides leadership and daily direction to Manufacturing Engineers and Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Provides assistance as needed to Production, Materials and Quality regarding design or manufacturing performance issues.
  • Analyzes production and quality issues or proposed deviations from established standards and advises related departments/business units on conclusions, recommendations and plans of action.
  • Participates in APQP and PDP events, and complete tasks as required in a timely manner.
  • Monitors and strives to improve department KOI’s.
  • Administers and ensures compliance with the Quality and Material Management system requirements as outlined in policy manuals.
  • Participates and leads process improvement projects: productivity, quality, ergonomics, etc.
  • Ensures the plant’s equipment readiness to launch successful new programs.
  • Ensures all employees within the department (new and transferred) have received all required training in a timely manner.
  • Ensures the thoroughness and timely completion of scheduled performance reviews for all employees within the department.
  • Ensures all Company policies, procedures, plant standards, and safety rules are consistently adhered to.
  • Collaborates with the Human Resources Manager in the administration of disciplinary action, when necessary.
  • Supports and enforces the principles of the Employee Charter, Company goals and objectives, and decisions and policies by taking ownership and communicating these in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Establishes open and honest dialogue with the union in administering the UAW contract.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with the Magna Employee Charter, the Occupational Health & Safety Act. and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that safety and housekeeping standards are maintained; and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
  • Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
  • Takes an active part in the division’s safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the division’s safety goals
  • If there is reason to believe that any equipment, or physical condition of the workplace is likely to endanger the employee or co-worker, or is in contravention of OSHA and MISOHA, notify management immediately.
  • If there is any reason to believe that any equipment, physical condition of the workplace  or assigned task is likely to jeopardize customer’s requirements, internal requirements or the quality of tests results and/or equipment build, notify management immediately.
  • Authorities as detailed in our Quality System for ISO/TS16949 2009 including but not limited to Corrective and Preventative Actions, Control of Documents, Control of Records, Internal Audits and Control of Nonconforming Product.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification/Licensure:   Bachelors Degree in manufacturing engineering or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience:  Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience in a JIT automotive manufacturing environment including a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory responsibility.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:   Demonstrates strong leadership skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and present information to customers, suppliers, vendors, management, employees and corporate personnel.  Excellent analytical, problem resolution and project management skills.  Proficient in all manufacturing methods, techniques, and related equipment.  Strong organizational skills; and the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and priorities within and across departments/business units to meet established and changing deadlines.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments.  Normal mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Frequently walks, stands, performs fine finger movements, grips/grasps, push/pulls, bends/stoops, and lifts and carries parts up to thirty (30) lbs.
