Role Summary

Plans, supports and implements supplier development programs to identify risk and improve quality of products purchased. Evaluates, selects and develops supply base and assesses new supplier technology to obtain maximum quality and productivity levels. Formulates and/or assists creating internal/external supplier development control policies and procedures, and development of quality standards. Ensures suppliers are compliant to corporate and customer quality standards. Serves as a technical liaison and coordinates activity of internal and external resources. Serves as a resource by providing a problem solving function by initiating action to overcome obstacles as they are encountered. Leads quality planning during launch phase of new products. Participates continuous improvement efforts by leading supplier development projects/programs. Researches, recommends and supports implementation of new and/or existing quality assurance processes of suppliers. Performs other duties as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading Global APQP and PPAP activities for Optics assemblies and subcomponents
  • Regional lead for APQP and PPAP activities for Mechanical Commodity components (e.g. Injection Molding, Casting, Stamping, etc.)
  • Conduct various supplier related audits (IATF/VDA) on potential and current suppliers to meet Magna Electronics requirements utilizing Supplier Assessments, Run-at-Rates, Manufacturing Capability Audits, Control Plan Audits, etc., and take necessary actions as required
  • Thorough knowledge of PPAP, SPC, MSA, APQP, GD&T, Check Fixtures, Gage R&R, AAR, etc..
  • Manages supplier root cause analysis and corrective actions to ensure robust solutions
  • Participate in cross functional Risk Assessment meetings and resulting Supplier design and feasibility reviews. 
  • Teaming up with Engineering, Purchasing, Suppliers, and Customers to harmonize discrepancies in product specifications and evaluate cost reduction or quality improvement opportunities.
  • Plans, supports, and implements supplier development programs in conjunction with Magna Electronic goals and objectives. Participates in continuous improvement efforts for products, tools, processes and programs.
  • Supporting the sourcing process by pro-actively identifying and assessing potential suppliers, participating in internal and external technical reviews with suppliers and engineering.
  • Support global manufacturing locations on supplier related performance issues. Conduct supplier training on Magna Global procedures and requirements including APQP, PPAP, Lean Initiatives, etc.
  • Monitor supplier performance (Incidents, PPM’s) and develop / implement effective action plans to improve poor performing suppliers

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • Minimum of 5-10 years previous experience in automotive supplier development/quality.
  • ***Die Casting experience is a must***
