Role Summary

The Software Technical Specialist is responsible to provide technical leadership to the engineering organization from the managerial level down to the engineering level. Maintain a thorough understanding of industry best-practices, work to identify strategic competitive gaps and lead cross-functional resolution of competitive gaps and other issues identified in the organization. A Technical Specialist could be required to fill in for a managerial or non-managerial role at a moment’s notice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as primary technical specialist for all Software engineering-related technical concerns and offers expertise to the product teams as appropriate
  • Assist in resolution of complex/difficult product issues as necessary
  • Identify strategic changes required to improve overall tools, processes, efficiency and quality
  • Participates in Software architecture and design reviews and ensures the most optimal architecture and design is chosen and best practices are followed
  • Proactively aid the engineering organization to avoid problems
  • Drive Risk Management processes into the organization
  • Drive Structured Problem Solving processes into the organization
  • Works closely with Core/Application Managers to develop and suggest reuse strategy
  • Review SW related key project deliverables
  • Represent Magna in the relevant industry groups (SAE, IEEE, etc.)
  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts, researches, recommends and initiates implementation of enhancements to products, processes and programs

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Master’s degree in Software/Computer Science Engineering or 10 years of technical engineering experience.

  • Minimum of 15 years deep and relevant experience regarding the responsibility/activities (listed above) in systems development.
  • Minimum of 20 years deep and relevant experience regarding the responsibility/activities (Listed Above) in systems development.
