Role Summary

Magna is seeking a talented & nimble Software Development & Integration Engineer to join our Engineering Team to solve challenging problems towards advancing mobility for everyone and everything. An ideal candidate should be able to work in a fast-paced environment and comfortable working with ambiguity to develop innovative solutions solving problems related to people and goods mobility.

 

The Software Development & Integration Engineer is responsible for software development and integration of various subsystems within the powertrain and chassis domain to support the corporate strategy. The position includes R&D activities such as modeling, simulation, controls, validation, testing, calibration, and analysis. Key Responsibilities

  • Understand and develop state-of-the-art methods to model and simulate overall powertrain and chassis systems involving batteries, safety functionalities, controls software, sensors, electronic components, mechanical components, electric motors, etc. for electric vehicles  
  • Develop advanced software that interacts, connects, and controls various subsystems within the powertrain and chassis domain in the electric vehicle 
  • Implement controls in controllers and conduct HIL, RCP testing with plant for software and/or hardware 
  • Conduct software and hardware testing with high-speed, high-power dynamometer and power electronics test bed 
  • Specify requests and coordinate sub-contracted work and assure timely completion
  • Work with identified Suppliers and external teams to analyse, test and integrate technologies into the Magna simulation framework and software
  • Work with other Magna Engineers to develop system level simulations by integrating various subsystems
  • Review technical literature, state-of-the art technologies, software techniques and market trends to stay informed about emerging and current technologies and methods in the powertrain and chassis domain  
  • Solve engineering challenges in the powertrain and chassis domain through innovative software solutions to improve power density, efficiency, cost, safety and reliability of subsystems and overall vehicle 
  • Develop software using tools such as Matlab/Simulink and Python.
  • Support and share knowledge with other Magna Powertrain and Electronics Divisions 
  • Support the Corporate Research & Development Deams with technical projects involving powertrain and chassis subsystems.
  • Develop documentations of simulation results, design, methods, related studies and analyses
  • Present papers, participate in symposia and committees on behalf of the group 
  • Continuing education and/or training is critical as technology evolves

Key Qualifications/Requirements

 

Education/Knowledge:       

  • Masters or Doctoral Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field. 
  • Extensive background in modeling, simulation, analysis, implementation, validation and software development preferred.  
  • Comprehensive understanding about automotive technology

 

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years of recent, in-depth, hands-on experience in a relevant field in the automotive industry
  • Comprehensive R&D experience in the powertrain and chassis domain
  • Experience in areas such as: powertrain control, battery management systems, condition monitoring, signal processing methods, artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, advanced driver assistance systems preferred 
  • Experience with DevOps skills such as CI/CD
  • Project management experience using tools such as Scrum
  • Experience in using GitHub
  • Experience in HIL (Hardware In Loop) testing, embedded systems, software integration, etc.
     

Skills/Compentencies:

  • Strong verbal and written English language skills, additional languages skills desired
  • Ability to work in global team-based environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with high level skills in PowerPoint and Excel
  • Demonstrated technical ability and creativity to initiate, direct, and control specific projects.
  • Software tools such as Matlab/Simulink and Python.

Additional Information

 

Work Environment:      

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. 
  • Local and/or international travel may be required.
  • May work at sites with test benches during validation testing and calibration
