GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Responsible for overseeing the Operation Managers at all Belleville locations.
  • Plan, direct or co-ordinate the operations, work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and quality specifications.
  • Duties and responsibilities include, managing daily operations and planning the use of materials and human resources.
  • Ensure that all equipment and process capacities are being maximized to achieve peak efficiencies.
  • Co-ordinating operational performance review driving scrap and labour with team and defining expectations.
  • Make sure all necessary communication is passed on to appropriate individuals.
  • Monitor inventory levels and staffing to ensure that the production schedules can be met.
  • Work with Joint Health & Safety (JHSC) to conduct audits, identify safety issues and ensure legislative compliance.
  • Ensure all Operators are trained effectively on safety.
  • Ensure Company Policies, Employee Handbook and applicable Standards (TS/ISO) are adhered to by all Operators.
  • Support Quality Reviews at the Customer locations, as necessary.
  • Conduct and manage Performance Reviews, as required.
  • Implement division level strategy for equipment and process Manufacturing support which supports the Lighting product road map and Business Plan.
  • Understand the current status of all processes and equipment throughout the facility and involve the proper disciplines in problem resolution.
  • Manage complete Capital Expenditure Budget related to Operation/Manufacturing, including equipment / tooling / infrastructure.
  • Provide support for maintenance planning for all phases of equipment, including initiation, identification (option analysis), development (design) and implementation.
  • Provide daily operational guidance and direction to staff on work assignments, managing results against set targets, scorecards, and other metrics in place by Management Team.
  • Assist in daily support to various manufacturing processes.
  • Work with appropriate teams to root cause problems that arise, effectively and efficiently.
  • Evaluate / Optimize build process to ensure product compliance to drawing and applicable manufacturing and design standards.
  • Conduct meetings and set priorities based on the needs of the business.  Make decisions regarding the operation based on Customer’s needs, needs of the business and the needs of the employees.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement actions and Productivity Improvement initiatives.
  • Lead in Problem-Solving efforts to improve product quality, cost, and reduction in cycle time at Production Cell.
  • Review strengths and weaknesses of internal manufacturing, business processes and equipment, driving scrap and labour reductions to meet Business Plan goals.
  • Creation of manufacturing KPI’s for manufacturing processes.
  • Ongoing understanding of KPI results, such as scrap rates, downtime and efficiencies, audit results and findings from both Internal and External audits (Quality, Environmental & Safety).
  • Lead / Participate in design for manufacturing and design for cost reviews through the PDP process.
  • Good working knowledge of project information and project interdependencies to make informed decisions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Able to drive accountability down to the direct reports through structured requirements, expectations and timelines.
  • Demonstrated focus on meeting program commitments and enforcement of work plans where timing is not achieved.
  • Understanding of Quote Capital Process and ROI.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Program Delivery Process (Gate Milestones) and associated expectations.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, creative, innovative, and people-oriented person.
  • Able to multi-task on several fronts to meet Business Plan objectives.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Work, Excel and PowerPoint and varied interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent follow-up tools and mechanisms.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing Techniques and variable/flexible standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes and dealing with mechanical and electrical equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of Customer Specific Requirements (IATF 16949/ISO 9000/ ISO 14001/OHSMS) and industry standards.
  • Understanding of IPC standards and ability to translate those requirements to equipment and processing strategy.
  • Knowledge and execution experience as it relates to APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans and Process Flow.
  • Proven ability to create and execute project plans that have achieved the identified targets.
  • Ability to create and manage autonomous work groups with defined expectations and deliverables.
  • The ability to develop and maintain Group Dynamics with cross-functional/matrix teams.
  • A tenacious personality that will not let an issue be left unresolved.
  • Transparency in communications with the understanding to escalate when appropriate for assistance in resolution.
  • A continuous improvement mentality and the ability to apply this personal capability and knowledge to the company’s processes, products, and associates (mentoring).
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and be willing to work overtime, as required.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Post-Secondary education in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Operational Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Manufacturing Environment (with assembly, moulding, coating, an asset) experience required.
  • Experience in an Integrated Product Development Team environment required.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving methods (Red X, Six Sigma, 8D, etc.) required.

  • English (at min.)

 

SPECIAL:

 

  • Review and analysis of Operational Performance data.
  • Print Tolerancing and GD&T/Capability Studies.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership and development of team members within a manufacturing environment.
  • Understands and follows existing Magna policies, procedures, work instructions and standards and makes recommendations for Continuous Improvements.

Physical Demands – Normal amount of sitting and standing; Ability to move around an office environment and on the production floor; Ability to work at a computer workstation; Ability to bend, twist, lift, reach and pull; Ability to lift max. 50 lbs periodically.  Required to carry out job duties and responsibilities in a work environment that may include, but is not limited to, varying levels of noise and/or temperature.  May be required to travel.

This position will require a certain amount of training both in-house and off-site.  The person who accepts the position will be expected to follow a learning curve with continuous development.
