Role Summary
The Technical Leader is responsible for all team members’ safety and well-being, overall development and supervision of Press Team Members, toolmakers, and automation technicians, health and safety, quality, customer cost, productivity, and ergonomic issues through using the company policies and procedures and the Magna Employee’s Charter as a guideline. To provide assistance to the BUL in a way that supports the Magna Charter, Corporate Constitution, and customers, investors, and employees. He/she will support the assigned press line on all shifts by providing guidance and tools they need in order to be safe and productive.
Key Responsibilities
- Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.
- Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies.
- Ensure daily pre-shift inspections are completed, conduct unplanned inspection audits on a weekly basis and planned inspection audits once a month.
- Routinely make visual inspections of emergency evacuations routes correcting any safety concerns immediately.
- Within 24 hours of an accident/incident complete accident investigations identifying root cause and corrective action.
- Ensure weekly safety talks in pre-shift meetings are being conducted with team members signing safety training roster.
- Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies and the Employee’s Charter.
- Immediately attend to all accidents and injuries and initiate the accident and injury investigation program, while following up to ensure procedure implementation and completion.
- Utilize interactive management principles when implementing corrective discipline procedures in dealing with team members, encourage professional development to enhance team performance, and cross train to maximize flexibility and coverage to accommodate vacations and absences.
- Provide timely coaching, counseling, and feedback to Team Members through one-on-one sessions, performance evaluations, and regular team meetings to ensure fulfillment of policies, practices, and procedures.
- Schedule, supervise, coordinate and direct the activities of team members, equipment and materials to ensure that quality and productivity standards are met for the assigned press line.
- Provide technical leadership to the press line with the expectation to be the subject matter expert for all operations of the press line including but not limited to material flow, equipment and process setup, programming and adjustments to the press, automation, feedline equipment and tooling
- Ensure compliance with press department, company and customer quality standards and procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with other departments as well as conduct all business activities in a professional manner.
- Participate/initiate in continuous improvements and take advantage of cost reduction opportunities.
- Promote, participate and implement Lean activities as they are introduced such as 5S, Kanban, PDCA’s and Standardized work.
- Demonstrate good root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to be proactive by identifying issues ahead of time and planning accordingly.
- Ensure the improvement of Press Department KPI’s by participating in the tracking and enhancement measures that are implemented.

Key Qualifications/Requirements
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly responsible for supervision of approximately 25 press, tooling and automation team members on the assigned press line.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or GED
- Post-secondary education preferred, or related experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably stamping
- A minimum of five years of experience in an automotive manufacturing environment preferred; experience in heavy metal stamping, planning and scheduling preferred
- A minimum of five years of tool and die experience preferred
- A minimum of three years of supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
- Operate standard office equipment preferred
- The Technical Leader will be responsible for understanding, implementing, communicating and auditing any and all quality standards, procedures, and processes.
- Must possess working knowledge and understanding of all aspects the stamping process
- Ability to repair and trouble shoot tooling and automation equipment
- Ability to coordinate tooling and automation preventive maintenance, corrections and improvements
- AutoCAD/Blueprint reading preferred
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Must possess working knowledge and understanding of quality systems, standards, and procedures
- Must have strong team-focused, interpersonal and leadership abilities
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Must be willing to work extended or flexible hours as required to meet external and internal customer requirements
- Must be willing to work in various locations within and outside the facility
- Must have good attention to detail
- Must possess good human relations, leadership skills, and a maturity of judgment
- Must have good organizational and problem-solving skills.
