Role Summary

To provide the Weld Verification department accurate and timely inspection results to verify conformance to each customers’ weld specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.

  • Attend and participate in Team, Department, Plant-wide and any other meetings as required. 
  • Conduct all activities in a professional manner and positive attitude with an emphasis on personal responsibility. 
  • Follow the Weld Destruct priority board to maintain the correct cut order.
  • Study roadmaps/master parts for proper weld ID labeling and placement
  • Use roadmaps, lab paperwork, plasma cutters, jaws of and pneumatic air tools
  • Perform additional weld verification using Non-Destructive test equipment
  • Prepare work area for following shift by implementing 5S and communicating any relevant information. 
  • Perform length inspections and additional Weld Lab procedures as needed.
  • Communicate with the Weld coordinator on cut order (priority), cut frequencies, and follow up on alerts / containments for issues.
  • Support co-workers through teamwork, training, overtime, etc.
  • Participate in the Weld Destruct 5S rotation schedule.  
  • Continuous improvement by meeting productivity goals, learning and sharing knowledge, and improving skill and ability.  
  • Perform other duties as required.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Post-secondary education preferred, or related experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Perform plasma cutting, operate an air hammer, Resistance Spot Weld Analyzer, prepare reference samples
  • Multitask, handle stress, implement advice, avoid distractions, adapt to changes, and work well with others
  • Follow work instructions and routines to comply with TS16949 requirements
  • Manage workload, schedule, break times, productivity, and teamwork
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work on short notice in order to meet internal/external customer requirements, scheduled and nonscheduled overtime shifts, etc.  Work extended hours and altered schedules to provide coverage for production requirements and scheduled time off
  • Possible Shift Work
  • Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Operate standard office equipment preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Remove assemblies from racks and lift onto tables
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds
  • Lift and operate air hammers and teardown tools
  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time, and occasional bending and stooping.
