Role Summary


MASSIV Automated Systems,  an advanced technology based division of Magna International Inc., specializes in the design and build of automated / robotic assembly lines for the automotive industry.   Our areas of expertise include hemming (robotic and table top), laser welding, and assembly line welding.  Our customers include other divisions within Magna and the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as General Motors, Chrysler and Ford. 
We are a true global supplier to the automotive industry!  Our assembly lines provide a diverse range of automotive products such as doors, hoods, liftgates and underbody parts to customers in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Asia and Europe.


The Boring Mill Operator (Afternoon shift position) performs a manual set up and operates a Tos boring mill to drill, bore, ream, mill, or countersink metal prefabricated pieces per drawing. Study blueprints to determine dimensional or finish specifications, sequences of operations, setups, or tooling requirements.
Select and set cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools, according to machining instructions and knowledge of metal properties.
Overhead crane licence an asset. Training can be provided.

Key Responsibilities

•    Program, maintain and operate Boring Mill, CNC Boring Mill, and related equipment accurately and efficiently
o    TOS WHN13 CNC Horizontal Boring Mill 
o    Okuma MCVA Vertical Bridge Mill 
o    TOS W100 Manual Horizontal Boring Mill 
•    Read and interpret blueprint drawings to tolerances
•    Carry out quality checks on an ongoing basis to ensure job is within tolerance using precision measuring tools
•    Make tool selection
•    Layout and inspect set up of various tooling and equipment
•    Design, build or modify new and existing tooling as required
•    Anticipate and solve problems
•    Communicate necessary information to Assistant Supervisor and co-workers from shift to shift
•    Perform assigned tasks in a safe manner and know how to properly lock out all energy sources, including stored energy
•    Consult your Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor if you are not 100% sure of how to perform tasks in a safe manner
•    Follow all safety rules, standards and procedures at all times in all areas
•    Know what types of Personal Protective Equipment are required for the jobs in your area and always use them properly
•    Ensure that your work area is kept clean, tidy and organized at all times to prevent accidents and produce good quality products
•    Report all unusual circumstances and actively participate in and support Continuous Improvements
•    Follow all ISO Standard Operating Procedures to ensure world class quality products are supplied to our customers
•    Perform other reasonable duties as assigned
 

Key Qualifications/Requirements

•    Recognized Certificate of Qualification as Machinist or equivalent experience required
•    Grade 12 education or equivalent required
•    Minimum of 3 years related experience required in machining 
•    Operating knowledge of various machines (Boring Mill, CNC Boring Mill)
•    CNC programming and set up abilities, an asset
•    Knowledge of Mastercam is an asset 
•    Good mathematical skills
•    Good communication skills
•    Must have own tools
•    Ability to work as a team member and individually
