Role Summary

The Lead Ergonomics Engineer supervises a team of ergonomics specialists, who review assembly processes and designs to ensure ergonomic risk to operators and assembly processes is minimized before equipment is built and installed at divisions. The successful candidate will act as subject matter expert amongst a team of process and design engineers. The Lead Ergonomics Engineer will also manage project workload, develop new business relationships within Magna, use new cutting-edge technologies to push ergonomics to the next level.

Key Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

  • Perform Ergonomics Failure Mode and Effects Analysis on assembly processes using industry accepted ergonomics analysis tools
  • Compile 3D human model simulations using available DHM CAD software (Siemens Process Simulate Human)
  • Perform design reviews on assembly processes and 3D design reviews of operator load fixtures to support process engineering team during new program launches
  • Provide quick feedback on in-house design projects
  • Test scenarios for improving ergonomics of assembly process and design in 3D CAD environment, and present recommendations to project engineering team
  • Maintain current standards on ergonomic design guidelines, operator movement times, operator utilization
  • Update report templates and guidelines to latest emerging research
  • Manage project timelines and budget
  • Develop and maintain client relationships within Magna
  • Mentor and lead junior ergonomists and/or experienced ergonomics contractors
  • Promote environment of open and honest communication to foster innovation and progress

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Knowledge and Education:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in kinesiology, biomechanics, ergonomics, human factors engineering or related field
  • CCPE or BCPE certification

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience identifying, quantifying, and providing solutions to ergonomics-related risks
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Experience leading technical teams and project management is an asset 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Visualization and critical analysis of physical demands associated with assembly processes in virtual design phase
  • Ability to learn new software
  • Ergonomics analysis tools not limited to Garg Equations, Jack/Process Simulate, 3DSSPP, RULA, Liberty Mutual Material Handling Equations, Mital Tables, Strain Index, Arm Force Field
  • Ability to use CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, NX) an asset
  • Proficiency in MS office required

Work Environment:

  • Office environment located in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, with occasional exposure to manufacturing environment
  • Hybrid weekly schedule (min. 60% office; max. 40% remote) after probation period
  • Day Shift, flex hours may be required to accommodate needs of global divisions
