Role Summary

Purpose and Responsibility of the Position:

The Buyer, or Purchasing Agent, is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies, or equipment for CCMi, working primarily with MRO. Their duties include negotiating deals with suppliers, researching possible item selections and taking inventory of current products, tracking the order's progress after purchasing it, and then adding this item to their inventory. In addition, buyers will work with several departments to determine their supply needs and make the necessary purchases to help the office remain productive and efficient.

 

The essential tasks involve determining purchasing needs, analyzing quotes and bids for the suitability, cost, and product availability, evaluating samples, products, and services, and recommending and initiating the purchase of materials, supplies, and services.

 

A Buyer's primary responsibilities include reviewing purchase orders, conferring with other departments to verify orders, contacting vendors, and evaluating bids offered by suppliers, aiding with various purchasing procedures, inventories, accounts, proposals, and similar preparations.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Communication Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • The primary language proficiency shall be in the English language.
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability


The Buyer should be analytically minded and possess excellent negotiating skills to secure the best prices according to budget. Knowledge of sales and marketing principles is advantageous. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and offer reasonable solutions towards corrective action.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items such as papers, books, small parts, driving an automobile, etc. No unique physical demands are required to perform the work.  Business Travel may be expected.
Must be able to work flex time to cover all three shifts.

Plant/ Office Environment:      40% standing
                   60% sitting

 

Education and/or Experience


High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
Bachelor's Degree in supply chain preferred
Minimum of one year prior experience in a manufacturing environment in a purchasing position
Excellent computer skills to include a thorough knowledge of an MRP system

Additional Information

Areas of Training Required:
Must have New Hire Orientation, Safety, and understanding of the Charter prior to or within the first two weeks of assuming the role. In addition, any ongoing PeopleNET+ courses after that.
