Summary of Responsibilities

The Material Supervisor is responsible for directly supervising all material handlers and daily Material Department floor activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate daily meetings (1st, 2nd & 3rd shift) and audits at Material KPI board
  • Manage Material Handler responsibilities that support production, floor layout requirements and zone area coverages 
  • Daily floor walks to provide audits to VSM boards, FG layout, hi-lo safety checks, shipping log, dunnage storage area, propane tank storage area and general 5S of department
  • Audit Shipping Receipts and Review open shippers
  • Attend daily required meetings to offer support/feedback from Material floor related issues
  • Update ADP.  Employee schedules and overtime.  Review manpower, vacations or any upcoming absenteeism concerns
  • Manage overtime equalization charting for Material Handlers
  • Able to work flexible hours to support business needs.  Primarily 1st, but may need to provide swing coverage
  • Support for Materials to process improvement and lean manufacturing activities
  • Work closely with production teams to determine long term strategic plans
  • Identify and resolve material interruptions on floor, and ensure support is given.  Initiate and complete root cause and corrective action of recurring problems
  • Initiate and enact countermeasures for KPI misses
  • Identify, initiate and lead continuous improvement activities for inventory efficiency
  • Collaborate with the teams maintain stocking levels to ensure optimal floor space utilization
  • Develop and maintain standard work instructions for all Material processes and positions
  • Monitor objectives with all team members to support plant level MAFACT goals
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for hourly material handlers
  • Identify training and developmental needs for all team members
  • Promote and facilitate Open Door process and Fair Treatment
  • Participate in Continual Improvement activities
  • Adheres to customer requirements, Business Operating System and company policies
  • Ensure Team Members use or wear the protective equipment required by CCMI, of any potential hazards and/or provide written instructions as to the measures to protect the Team Member
  • Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a Team Member and report any known contravention out of their control to their BU Leader/Manager
  • Conduct accident / incident investigations and implement corrective actions and Continued Improvements
  • Conduct monthly safety inspections and implement corrective actions
  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions
  • Adhere to and comply with and exceed where possible all applicable federal, state, and OSHA environmental, health and safety laws, regulations, external & internal standards and other requirements in all of its operations which relate to its health, safety and environmental aspects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred minium requirement and 5+ years of experience in Material Warehouse Managment required
  • Experience in the automotive industry perferred
  • Candidate should have in-depth knowledge Material flow process, Lean, Continuous improvement and excellent organizational skills.
  • Prior demonstrated experience using personal computers in a work environment including Excel and Word software


Work Environment

  • Includes office and manufacturing plant
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees of all departments, management, customers and suppliers
  • Provide support for three shifts and weekend production schedule
  • Flexible hours and able to work additional hours as required
