Role Summary

Directs and coordinates the activities of tool room employees, contractors, or vendors engaged in production or processing of tools in the company’s facility.  Oversee and direct team members in a safe, quality-minded and productive manner to attain production priorities as scheduled.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures adherence to safety protocols by all department employees at all times
  • Ensures reliability of tools by working to reduce scrap and downtime due to tooling failures
  • Have a robust preventative maintenance program that covers tooling and fixtures
  • Involved in tool design changes to ensure reliability and customer satisfaction
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of tool makers, apprentices in the tool room.
  • Supervision of team members to include training and development, communication and enforcement of company policies and procedures, performance coaching and evaluation, and written documentation of team member performance issues
  • Plans and establishes work schedules, assignments, and production sequences, to meet production goals. 
  • Maintains operations data, such as time, production, cost records, QOS Metrics and prepares management reports. 
  • Manages tool room operations to maximize resources to achieve productivity and profitability.
  • Approves requisitions for materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services. 
  • Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, processes, efficiency, and service to both internal and external customers to ensure world class tool room.
  • Communicates clearly and directly with employees concerning performance expectations, productivity, and accountability.

  • Adhere to customer requirements, Business Operating System and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Knowledge of inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution.  This includes strategic planning, resource allocation, manpower modeling, leadership techniques, and production methods.
  • Must be able to understand written instructions

Additional Information

Communication Skills

  • The main language proficiency shall be in the English language.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  •  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.
  •  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and offer reasonable solutions towards corrective action.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Includes office and manufacturing plant.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees of all departments, management, customers and suppliers.
  • Must be able to work flex time in order to cover all three shifts, and work additional hours as required.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred
  • Technical Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; or 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Prefer tool making certificate working in die cast or plastic injection molding.
