Group Description

 

The Mechatronics, Mirrors and Lighting group specializes in automotive technologies that are driving the future of mobility. Key Responsibilities

 

  • Own and champion the following activities to ensure quality of the event:
    • Validation testing and compliance for new designs and engineering changes on current projects assigned
      • Manage all valdidation activities, providing the link from the customer to the labs
      • Create validation plans (ADVPR) and work with customers for approvals
      • Modify and update ADVPR throughout the program validation phase, to include tests for lamp level, component level and electronics level
      • Modify and update internal Magna Test Tracker throughout the program validation phase 
      • Document test incidents (TIR’s) and corrective actions (CAR's). and provide support where needed to drive to closure
    • Validation Fixture Procurement
      • Together with the Resident Designer, responsible for ensuring all required fixtures and test supplies are provided to the lab(s) prior to validation start. Fixtures and supplies include Photo, Vibration, Condensation, Dunk (seal), Water Spray, Corrosion, Reflex holding fixtures, test harnesses, attachment hardware, etc...
      • Create Timelines to track each of the tasks required
      • Track development to meet program milestones in PDP.
    • Responsible for all post launch Product Engineering changes once the lamps are 90 days into Productions (or all launch issues are resolved)
      • Design responsible for any changes required due to warranty and supplier changes
      • Once a VAVE project is defined and the concept is tested, be responsible for any design changes and subsequent validation testing
      • Support Plant teams for any Production requests
  • PDP and Business Protocol Adherence
  • Meet all commitments – confront and elevate issues timely
  • Able to focus on and support the product engineering process, ensuring high levels of product integrity
  • Manage validation process to ensure all tasks are completed on time and to protect the program and customer milestones
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and follow-up on validation issues
  • Represent Lighting Division in a professional manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications/Requirements

 

  • Post-Secondary School in Industrial / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering is preferred. Work experience in the validation process and/or product design process can be considered as substitute
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Industrial / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering would be an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Manufacturing and/or Engineering environment in the Automotive and/or Automotive Supply Base sector focusing on Assembly, Moulding, Coating and Tooling Methods is preferred, but not mandatory
  • Valid Driver's license and ability to travel between plants required
  • Demonstrated understanding of Product Development, Core Tools (APQP, SPC, MSA, FMEA & PPAP), Control Plans/ Process Flows, Root Cause Analysis/ Practical Problem Solving
  • Demonstrated understanding of Customer requirements for validation of Automotive Lighting
  • Demonstrated  knowledge of basic concepts of design output, metrology and instrumentation

  • Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Office, Minitab etc.)
  • Ability to efficiently work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Proficient in dimensional systems and analysis
  • Effective communication (written & verbal) with various departments within Magna Lighting and with customer, as required
  • Strong organizational, self-starter and prioritizing abilities
  • Ability to initiate and follow tasks through to completion
  • Must be proficient in and learning Business Operating Systems (i.e.TS16949, IMDS, QSI, Supply Web, Customer Requirements and Trans4M etc.)
  • Knowledge of various processes (i.e. molding, coating, assembly etc.)
  • Knowledge of basic concepts of design output, metrology and instrumentation
  • Able to travel and work flexible hours to accommodate international Customers
  • Strong problem solving skills related to manufacturing
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Proven track record in performance and attendance in current position

Physical Demands

 

  • Normal amount of sitting and standing
  • Ability to move around an office environment and on the production floor
  • Ability to work at a computer workstation
  •  Ability to bend, twist, lift, reach
  • Ability to lift max. 50lbs periodically
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime
  • Must be flexible with work hours (due to interaction with colleagues in different time zones)
  • Travel (domestically and internationally) will be required to support projects with suppliers, customers, and other Magna Lighting divisions
