Role Summary

This positions reports directly to the IT Department Manager and is responsible for the general and specific job duties of Magna Exteriors Belvidere as described below:

 

To perform this job successfully; an individual must be able to perform each specific duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Required to support production and maintenance teams by Troubleshooting Debugging any automation code that is causing downtime.   In addition, an Automation Tech will be required to only recommend changes to Automation code to Automation Engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform PM on automation and IT equipment as scheduled.
  • Expected to participate in a Training Program 
  • Attend any training session, class, or seminar as deemed necessary by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Required to actively participate and champion automation projects as assigned.  These projects will be based on Communication Protocols / PLC / Electronics / Wiring / Robotic Programming.
  • Able to read electrical prints to support breakdown and projects.
  • Conduct research to suggest automation solutions.
  • Work in concert with engineers to ensure machines operate with the MES.  
  • Assists in writing troubleshooting guides.
  • Executes automation audits on programs
  • Conducts floor level training to Production/Maintenance/IT on new equip
  • Tasked with designing and constructing of E.O.A.T. 
  • Complete and communicate end of shift notes including issues seen on the floor and project completion updates. 
Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • Must be able to show basic competence in maintenance skills.  (Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Mechanical, Electrical).
  • Proficient in PLC troubleshooting.
  • Journeyman card is a plus.
  • Electrical Classes (Controls, Programming, and Robotics…. etc.) is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a field of maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of principles used in multi-axis robotic systems, conveyor transport systems,
  • Basic knowledge or experience of automated equipment installation process.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills; customer focused
  • Personal computer skills
  • Understanding of manufacturing, assembly, sequencing and equipment principles
  • Relative experience is acceptable in lieu of education.
  • Flexible Shift – Based on Department Manager’s Needs. Must be able to support weekend production and work evenings.

Physical Requirements

This position requires a person to have the ability to:

  • Perform work while sitting, standing or walking a minimum of six (6) hours a day
  • Ability to lift, push or pull up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis

 

Working Conditions:

  • The majority of the job is performed in an office environment. Occasionally work will be performed in a production/manufacturing environment with some risk and harmful elements.
