PURPOSE OF POSITION:  The Material Planner is accountable for the timely availability of supplied-material, service items and maintenance items required by the production and supply schedules; and in conformance to specified quantities, engineering levels, design standards, functionality, geometry, performance and features.

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY:  The Material Planner is responsible for scheduling and expediting supplied material delivery for all inbound materials required in production, service items and maintenance while adhering to KAMTEK’s plant standards and upholding the Magna Employee’s Charter.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITIONS:

 

  1. Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies.
  2. Follow and comply with all operational procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programs
  3. Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies (Magna Operational Principles, Corporate Constitution and Employee’s Charter).
  4. Monitor MRP (Forecasts, Stock on hand, customer demand, production schedule, inventory transactions and reject material) on all related production material to protect production and reduce cost
  5. Plan, Forecast, Schedule and Release supplied material demands to meet our production requirements;
  6. Follow-up on delivery timing and expedite the material as needed through line delivery
  7. Follow-up and validate carrier appointments (specified carrier arrival times to avoid excess traffic density)
  8. Special project and campaign assignments, tasks and duties as assigned by management from time to time – including but not limited to: Program launches, software launches, training initiatives, document creation, work instruction authoring, etc.
  9. Use ERP System (CMS) as the Primary means of creating, monitoring and communicating schedules, inventory quantities, releases and forecasts.
  10. Forecast Raw Material to all suppliers (mill sources, processors, blankers, etc.)
  11. Track production and forecast trends to help predict future scheduling needs – audit production rates, pack quantities, scrap factors and cycle times
  12. Generate and Send regular Raw Material releases to all suppliers
  13. Ensure continual material flow into all required locations
  14. Maintain proper lean inventory levels on all raw materials in accordance to process capabilities
  15. Monitor and ensure inventory accuracy of raw material throughout the system
  16. Monitor Raw Material usage and utilization of all Tier 2 Suppliers using Resale Steel
  17. Analyze yield and variances for Raw Material consumption – Investigate variances, identify issues and develop solutions to solve the issues
  18. Track Scrap and Off-fall for all parts and blanks produced – Know and understand the loss rates and usage rates to identify areas for improvement and opportunity
  19. Support Kamtek initiatives concerning 5S, Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen
  20. Monitor Supplier Performance for all Raw Material Suppliers
  21. Evaluate corrective actions put in place at suppliers to support Raw Material delivery
  22. Process returns to vendors for all defective or non-conforming material
  23. Ensure customer systems are answered in accordance to Customer requirements (as assigned)
  24. Support cross training with other roles and serve as a backup for other assigned roles
  25. Follow proper Materials Management procedures
  26. Accomplish all work assignments as directed by management personnel
  27. Promote good housekeeping (5S)
  28. Perform other duties as required.

 

 

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

-Ability to work in a team environment or independently to perform duties with little supervision.

-Ability to communicate with team members on all shifts and possess good mathematical and   organizational skills.

-Ability to adequately perform all above job requirements within the timeframe allotted to support the customer needs

-The environment is high pressure and requires extreme accuracy and attention to detail

-The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with team members, leaders, customers and suppliers

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Some of the physical demands for this position include the ability to lift 40 pounds and being able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time in a manufacturing environment.

 

EQUIPMENT / TOOLS USED

 

Some of the equipment and tools used are basic departmental hand tools and personal protective equipment.  Computer, telephone, copier/printer.

KNOWLEDGE

 

EDUCATION:  High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s Degree in business administration or certified 2 year training program for the material scheduling profession; or Four years verifiable work experience in same profession is acceptable in lieu of formal education.

 

OTHER:  Safe work practices, general knowledge of mechanical operations. Computer skills: High level proficiency in Microsoft applications.  (Vlookup, Macros, Pivot, Index, VBA), as well as solid Access skills; PowerPoint, Word.

 

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

 

WHAT TYPES?  Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Related experience in Inventory Control, demand planning, production planning, or supply chain management is preferred.
