Role Summary

To direct and lead the department in the bidding, negotiation and best price procurement for direct purchases of Raw Material, MRO, Products and Services through effective purchasing and negotiations practices within the Purchasing Department. Protect the business plan from a Purchasing Department perspective.  Plan future business from a Purchasing Department point of view.

Key Responsibilities

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing and monitoring all activities, supporting the Steering Team, Managers, and all Departments within the Company in matters regarding Purchasing needs, policy application, employee relations, and continuous improvement related to the department functions.  The Purchasing Manager will have direct and indirect responsibility for all Company purchases, and service contracts.  Under the general direction of the General Manager, the Department Leader has ongoing contacts both internally and externally and must combine his/her technical, human and conceptual skills to plan, control and lead the team toward meeting divisional objectives.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  1. Ensure weekly safety talks in pre-shift meetings are being conducted with team members signing safety training roster
  2. Support Joint Health & Safety Committee and respond to all issues for resolution within 21 days
  3. Annually conduct PPE Assessments and Job Hazard Analysis
  4. Review the Health & Safety Dashboard weekly
  5. Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies and the Employee’s Charter.
  6. Develop, and foster strong working relations with individuals, teams, and overall department; carry out performance assessments, establish developmental/training requirements of Purchasing Team; and implement corrective measures if required in order to sustain effectiveness of services provided
  7. Responsible for the Supplier Rating Performance and Supplier Development actions.
  8. Responsible for the implementation of adequate professional purchasing practices in all purchasing related issues.
  9. Develop long term budget plan for Purchasing Department to control the expenditure, regarding Raw material, MRO components, and services to assist the Company and the Steering Team to achieve financial targets and objectives.
  10. Develop programs for Cost Savings and Cost Avoidance tracking, continuous improvement, establish procedures and job training.
  11. Participate in short and long-term supplier price reduction initiatives with engineering and materials in order to optimize products being purchases as well as reducing cost from the supply chain flow
