The Reliability Engineer will lead the effort to reduce downtime in the press shop by working closely with production and maintenance to identify and correct the causes of failures that occur. To collect and analyze data to determine the life cycle of components and to assist with setting up schedules to replace them before failure.






The Reliability Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the presses are in a condition that will allow them to meet the requirements of production. The Reliability Engineer is responsible to ensure that all goals of the Customer, People, and Investor goals are balanced and met.






  1. Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies.
  2. Follow and comply with all operational procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programs
  3. Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies (Magna Operational Principles, Corporate Constitution and Employee’s Charter).
  4. Ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations. The Reliability Engineer is responsible for adhering to the Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM) process throughout the entire life cycle of new assets.
  5. Participates in the development of design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans. Participates in the development of criteria for and evaluation of equipment and technical MRO suppliers and technical maintenance service providers. Develops acceptance tests and inspection criteria.
  6. Participates in the final check out of new installations. This includes factory and site acceptance testing that will assure adherence to functional specifications.
  7. Guides efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, controls, and safety/security systems.
  8. Professionally and systematically defines, designs, develops, monitors and refines an Asset Maintenance Plan that includes:
    1. Value-added preventive maintenance tasks
    2. Effective utilization of predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems
  9. Provides input to a Risk Management Plan that will anticipate reliability-related, and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact press operation.
  10. Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect press operations. These problems include capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues. To fulfill this responsibility the Reliability Engineer applies:
    1. Root-cause and Root-Cause Failure Analysis (RCA, RCFA)
    2. Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)
  11. Works with Production to perform  analyses of assets including:
    1. Overall Equipment Effectiveness
    2. Remaining useful life
    3. Other parameters that define operating condition, reliability and costs of assets
  12. Provides technical support to production, maintenance management and technical personnel.
  13. Applies value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and make/buy decisions
  14. Promotes good housekeeping (5S)
  15. Perform other duties as required.





SKILL (Ability to do the job)

-           Must have basic computer skills

-           Ability to work in a team environment

-           Must have excellent organizational and communication Skills

-           Must have good analytical skills

-           Must be able to read mechanical blueprints

-           Must be able to read electrical schematics

-           2 years’ experience in a press shop environment

-           Troubleshooting, root cause analysis, inspection and testing

-           Experience in reliability, predictive/preventative maintenance systems

-           Be flexible and available to interact and connect with people at all levels in the organization

-           Be self-directed and motivated

-           Display the ability to multi-task and be effective in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

-           Proven ability to collaborate and work closely with cross-functional teams





Some of the physical demands for this position include the ability to lift 40 pounds, standing and walking for extended periods of time, and occasional bending and stooping.
