Continuous Improvement Engineer

Summary of Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives through lean systems & processes to facilitate production activity increasing throughput and minimizing system waste. 

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•    Supports plant by recommending productivity and lean systems improvements/initiatives
•    Supports Manager in program establishment and follows-up all program stages (timing, concept, feasibility, design, construction, try-out, launch, final buy-off, prototype programs & engineering changes)
•    Prepares reports, charts and other documentation required for engineering records and projects
•    Prepares drawings and material specifications as required by departments
•    Must be capable of handling projects from inception to completion.
•    Educate and train associates on the ways to improve the company’s products, machines and processes.
•    Balance work cell man loading activities.
•    Look into the future of the organization and identify and eliminate short and long – term problems that may occur.
•    Identify manufacturing challenges and attempt to remove or minimize impact to cost, logistics & complexity.
•    Analyze manufacturing data and based on the observations, give guidelines for standard operations.
•    Work towards increasing the efficiency of the manufacturing unit – Reduced Scrap/waste; Improve OA.
•    Conducts method analysis and improvements to work station design including recommendations to replace equipment.
•    Conducts material handling and flow analysis, responsible for material flow within the plant, plant layouts, new equipment layout, and warehousing requirements.
•    Work measurement techniques and applications.
•    Application of layout disciplines.
•    Works with production departments and customers to design solutions to improve production planning and product styling.
•    Recommends changes to simplify procedures and reduce process time.
•    Recommends the replacement or improvement of equipment with a view to improving the efficiency, ergonomic design or economic viability of our operations.
•    Develops quotes for capital projects.
•    Handle confidential information on a regular basis.
•    Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example.
•    Promote and facilitate Open Door process, effective communication and Fair Treatment.
•    Adhere to customer requirements, Business Operating System and company policies.
•    Lead Continuous Improvement objectives supporting the departments and organizational goals.
•    Identify and pursue cost saving initiatives.
•    Support inefficient process fixes plant wide – All departments.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

Customer Required Training – This position will be required to have some or all of the following trainings
•    FCA – CQMS (Corporate Quality Management System)

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Education, Competencies, and Experience

•    Engineering Degree or equivalent combination of education and work related experience
•    Mathematical/Analytical and proven problem solving skills
•    10 year related work experience in Industrial/lean Manufacturing Engineering field
•    Six Sigma Black Belt Certified
•    Good organizational, leadership, interpersonal and problem solving skills
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•    Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact
•    Motivated to excel at job of Lean Manufacturing Engineer, learn and advance
•    Applies standard industrial engineering & Lean Manufacturing practices

Team Member Health & Safety Responsibilities 
•    Understand your responsibility for health, safety and environmental in the workplace.
•    Cooperate with OSHA/State OSHA inspectors.
•    Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment.
•    Follow all safety rules.
•    Report unsafe conditions immediately.
•    Report injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses, property damage immediately.
•    Will not remove or make ineffective any protective device such as a guard, light curtain, etc.
•    Will not use or operate any machine or equipment that the team member is not trained to operate.
•    Will not use or operate any machine or equipment in a manner that may endanger any team member including themselves.

Additional Information

•    The work environment is a combination of some office and mainly manufacturing plant, and is characterized by temperature extremes, loud noise, chemicals, considerable tow motor traffic and pressure caused by deadlines and interruptions
•    The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings and with employees, management, customers and suppliers
•    Overtime as required to meet support of production requirements
