About the Role

This position is responsible for developing the logistics aspects from launch to production, including setting up the transportation routes of the Materials Department.  The position is responsible for planning all aspects related to transportation routes for both customer and supplier. The Logistics Planner will also focus on cost savings, program quoting and avoidance of expedited freight.  Needs to work with continuous improvement within BGM, and contribute effectively in a team environment.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain all supplier and customer transportation routings
  • Set up and monitor contracts with all BGM carriers 
  • Communicate with automotive customers and suppliers on matters relating to product delivery and material supply, and all departmental and divisional levels on operational issue.
  • Prepare reports and cost studies and advise Leadership of actual or potential problems.
  • Develop and direct the utilization and use of all Materials Management Systems.
  • Develop business planning from a Logistical perspective
  • Ensure customer systems (DDL) are in place and guidelines (MMOG certification) are met on time.
  • Develop equipment and manpower capacity plans, recommend overtime as required, and contribute studies from a logistical standpoint.
  • Follow and abide by all government and legal rules and regulations. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, problem solving, corrective actions and cost reduction activities to assist BGM in meeting targets and goals.
  • Establish and maintain communication with other departments.
  • Investigate Materials Management problems, difficulties, and develop and implement solutions to remedy problem.
  • Coordinate activities of a program from a Materials Management point of view.
  • Ensure all aspects defined in the MP&L Implementation Timeline for Materials Management are met.
  • Monitor and report on supplier delivery performance by reviewing status of scheduled receipts.
  • Monitor any supply related issues and ensure corrective action and QPF entries are applicable.
  • Ensure we are meeting all government guidelines with importation.
  • Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.
  • Follows and supports and Magna’s operating principles.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Who we are looking for

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Post-secondary education in Materials Management, Business or Engineering preferred, or related experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel 
  • Previous experience and knowledge dealing with import and exporting of products
  • Minimum of 2-year experience in a manufacturing environment 
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in Production and Logistical Planning field; automotive JIT 
  • SAP and OEM system experience 
  • Logistics Experience 
  • Multi-task
  • Organizational skills
  • Problem solving
  • Mathematical skills.
