MRO Buyer

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Buyer position is responsible for developing, maintaining and investigating potential new suppliers as well as current suppliers for new and existing programs. The Buyer will create Purchase Orders, and Request for Quotations and assist/work with various departments within Vehtek to ensure all requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for buying of materials, operating supplies, manufacturing equipment and services.
  • Procurement/Development of sources of supply.
  • Able to maintain a positive contribution towards quality, customer satisfaction and company profitability.
  • Maintain vendor file, purchase price, price fluctuations and quality records on purchased items.
  • Resolve material claims with vendors.
  • Work on projects, reports and contribute various studies as required.
  • Train other employees as required.
  • Insourcing, outsourcing, and resourcing parts as required.
  • Monitor back order report and min/max levels to ensure appropriate amount of inventory available.
  • Customs issues including importation and exportation of Stores related items.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms and conditions, and contracts.
  • Maintain relations with current vendors, conduct vendor visits when required, and develop new sources of supply.
  • Responsible for coordinating pre-production requirements to meet customer demands.
  • Responsible for resolving shortages and issues with suppliers and products.
  • Implement and maintain all MRO items in the SAP System
  • Able to perform other duties as required within the Purchasing Department.
  • Expedite operations to meet unforeseen conditions
  • Lead by example with 5S, wearing of PPE, safety and housekeeping practices
  • Promote and facilitate Open Door process, effective communication and Fair Treatment
  • Participate in Continual Improvement activities
  • Adhere to customer requirements, Quality Operating System(QOS) and company policies
  • Adhere to and support the Environmental Management System per ISO-14001 requirements and Federal Regulations

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Business or related field
  • Minimum of four years prior experience in a manufacturing environment in either a purchasing position
  • Excellent computer skills to include thorough knowledge of a MRP system(SAP preferred)
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, etc)
  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
  • Good mathematical, analytical and organizational skills
Additional Information
  • Manufacturing plant floor, characterized by temperature extremes, loud noise and considerable tow motor traffic
  • The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with team members, leadership, customers and suppliers.
  • Must be able to attend planning and training meetings as required
  • Able to work in various locations within and outside the plant
