Summary of Responsibilities

The Materials Planner is accountable and responsible to support the master schedule by scheduling suppliers utilizing the MRp system to meet customer demands in a timely and cost effective manner. The Materials Planner is responsible for ensuring 100% on-time delivery from the VehTek supply base and for tracking supplier performance metrics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule work flow according to previously established manufacturing sequence and lead time
  • Schedule and release steel purchased components and all sub-contract suppliers
  • Ensure inventory accuracy and manage inventory internally and at subcontract locations
  • Work closely with Purchasing Manager and Logistics Department to ensure smooth and timely flow of raw materials and work in process to meet customer shipping requirements
  • Maintain effective communication to applicable departments on all shifts pertaining to schedules
  • Confer with department leaders and managers to determine status of assigned projects
  • Expedite operations to meet unforeseen conditions
  • Participate in problem solving and continual improvement activities
  • Perform weekly releases, forecasts and perform analyses of customer demand and supplier  requirements
  • Prepare schedules to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meet shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders
  • Exercise high degree of independent decision making regarding organizing and performing work to meet customer requirements
  • Responsible for optimum scheduling of production to meet demand, forecasting future needs, resolving internal and external problems, and communicating effectively with both customers and suppliers.
  • Complete correspondence, forms and reports through the PC and current MRP software
  • Ensure 100% on-time delivery from all suppliers
  • Enter and maintain Logistics complaints in QPF database and ensure that suppliers respond timely to comply with all MAFACT requirements
  • Follows the principles of the Magna Employee Charter
  • Lead by example with 5S wearing of PPE, safety and housekeeping practices 
  • Promote and facilitate Open Door process, effective communication and Fair Treatment
  • Participate in Continual Improvement activities
  • Adhere to customer requirements, Quality Operating System(QOS) and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Adhere to and support the Environmental Management System per ISO-14001 requirements and Federal Regulations

Leader Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Able to work flexible and additional hours as required to support all shifts
  • Able to travel

Education, Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum of four years prior experience in a manufacturing environment in either a scheduling or purchasing position is required
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Excellent computer skills to include thorough knowledge of a MRP system (CMS is preferred)
  • APICS certification preferred

Work Environment

  • Office and manufacturing plant floor, characterized by temperature extremes, loud noise and considerable tow motor traffic 
  • The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with team members, leadership, customers and suppliers. 
  • Must be able to attend planning and training meetings as required
