Role Summary

The Area Leader is responsible for all team members’ safety and well-being, overall development and supervision of Team Leaders and Team Members, health and safety, quality, customer cost, productivity, and ergonomic issues through using the company policies and procedures and the Magna Employee’s Charter as a guideline.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.
  2. Follows and supports and Magna’s operating principles. 
  3. Ensure daily pre-shift inspections are completed, conduct unplanned inspection audits on a weekly basis and planned inspection audits once a month.
  4. Routinely make visual inspections of emergency evacuations routes correcting any safety concerns immediately.

  5. Ensure weekly safety talks in pre-shift meetings are being conducted with team members signing safety training roster.

  6. Schedule, supervise, coordinate and direct the activities of skilled trade team members to ensure that production levels and quality standards are met.

  7. Develop programs for record retention, continuous improvement, build standards and job training.

  8. Establish and maintain effective communications with all other departments as well as conduct all business activities in a professional manner.

  9. Plan and direct the utilization of resources to achieve the most effective results.

  10. Supervise all skilled trade team members in accordance with the principles of the Employee Charter, policies and procedures set out in the BGM Team Member Handbook.

  11. Act on behalf of the Department Leader in their absence and assume the full role of the Team Leader in their absence.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; 2-years industrial maintenance degree from accredited technical college preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Three years previous leadership in a skilled trade environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an automotive manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Operate standard office equipment preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Must have strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and establish goals and deadlines for self and team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet departmental and BGM’s needs.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be willing to work in various locations within and outside the facility.
  • Must possess working knowledge and understanding of manufacturing equipment/stamping process and tooling and its operation process and have good manufacturing background.
  • Strong electrical and hydraulic knowledge/troubleshooting abilities.
  • Must possess working knowledge and understanding of quality systems, standards and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and pay attention to detail.
  • Must possess good human relations, leadership skills and maturity in judgment.
  • Able to operate and maintain all machinery and equipment in his/her assigned area.

Physical Demands

 

  • Office and General factory environment.
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work on short notice in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.).
  • Possible Shift Work.
  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time, and occasional bending and stooping.
