About the Role

The Team Leader is responsible to lead, direct, and support Assembly Team Members safely and efficiently, to coordinate and communicate with other departments, follow safe work methods, and to conform to the Employee’s Charter principles and plant standards.

Your Responsibilities

  1. Help develop a team that can safely meet the business’s needs
  2. Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.
  3. Promote Andon Procedure and follow it. Stop the job per criteria. Document on board. Issue a TA immediately for rejects that are over minimum. Support escalation process when required.  Be available in the immediate area to be able to respond to team members’ requests for help.
  4. Follows and supports and Magna’s operating principles
  5. Conduct all activities in a professional manner and positive attitude with an emphasis on personal responsibility. 
  6. Lead the (Tier 1) pre-shift meetings.  Communicate issues to Area Leader lineside within first hour of shift (Tier 2 meetings) that could prevent team from achieving shift’s goals.
  7. Ensure daily pre-shift inspections are completed and conduct planned inspection audits on each shift.  Complete Layered Process Audits and 5S Audits daily for designated area.
  8. Maintain integrity of quality to ensure finished product meets BGM standards, to include the changing of weld tips, wire spools, and cleaning of nozzles to ensure efficiency of weld robots.
  9. Routinely make visual inspections of emergency evacuation routes correcting any safety concerns immediately.
  10. Within 24 hours of an accident/incident complete accident investigations identifying root cause and corrective action.
  11. Conduct weekly safety talks in pre-shift meetings.
  12. Coordinate and assign job responsibility for team members.
  13. Complete and maintain team member performance reviews.
  14. Achieve first time quality and efficiency to meet production requirements
  15. Maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
  16. Immediately attend to all accidents and injuries and initiate the accident and injury investigation program, while following up to ensure procedure implementation and completion.
  17. Support company and customer quality systems, continuous improvement and lean manufacturing process.  Encourage team to generate Continuous Improvement suggestions.
  18. Follow and comply with all operational procedures and policies.
  19. Initiate and administer corrective actions as required.
  20. Maintain equipment with scheduled preventive maintenance.
  21. Support the Production Manager, Area Leader, BUL and Assistant General Manager.
  22. Develop and facilitate on-the-job team member training using Job Instruction/TWI Methodology utilizing Job Element Sheets and updating training matrices and proficiency checklists.
  23. Report to work prior to the start of scheduled shift to ensure informed handoff from previous shift, and understand line condition prior to start up.  Team leaders may also be scheduled to stay after scheduled production to complete end of shift responsibilities. Schedule shifts will be at leadership’s discretion.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned including filling in for operators when necessary.  
  25. Observe team members once a week to ensure they are following standardized work per the Job Element Sheets and Standard Work Charts.
  26. Fill out and review “Hour by Hour” sheet hourly.  Record problems and corrective actions for each problem.  Participate and lead problem solving activities in designated area.

Who we are looking for

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Post-secondary education preferred, or related experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to promote healthy employee relations in workplace
  • 1-3 year experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 1 year of leadership and supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of OSHA
  • Knowledge of DOL compliance guidelines
  • Must be willing to obtain weld certification and forklift certification.
