Role Summary

In an increasingly global and competitive world of automotive manufacturing, engineers need to accurately model and predict manufacturing reality years before any production starts. At Cosma Assembly Technology, we help our customers achieve world-class manufacturing by using the latest technologies to design, simulate and validate automotive assembly processes and concepts. Our customers include some of the largest Magna production facilities around the globe. Cosma Assembly Technology is in Brampton, Ontario, and is a division of Magna International. Our business is engineering, but our greatest asset is the people who drive the business forward. Our capabilities include 3D process design & simulation, 3D ergonomics analysis, fixture design, off-line programming, discrete event simulation, and the continuous improvement of existing assembly applications.

The Simulation Engineer validates robot processes based on expected performance, feasibility, reach and safety requirements. Communicates with internal and external suppliers to give direction on design intent and deliverables as per customer specifications. Creates detailed robot simulations to OLP level and prepares supporting documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create robotic simulation studies using Tecnomatix, and Roboguide software
  • Ensure robotic layout is collision free, safeties are considered, and meets customer standards
  • Verify machine times, transfer times, system cycle time and robot interference zones
  • Create supporting documentation for controls line ups, weld engineering and systems layout
  • Provide feedback to improve the standard manufacturing cells, processes and concepts for assembly system including Logistics and Quality
  • Follow ISO 9001 and MAFACT process as required by company.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Post-Secondary education e.g. technical school, college, university or special studies
  • Experience with 3D Process Software an asset (Tecnomatix, Delmia, RobCAD)
  • Ability to understand process engineering an asset
  • Ability to understand and apply industrial safety standards: CSAZ432(safeguarding of machinery) and CSAZ434 (industrial robots)
  • Min. (5) years’ work experience in automotive assembly and SPOT/GMAW welding
  • Chassis and Body-In-White simulation experience.

Work Environment:

  • Office environment with occasional exposure to manufacturing environment
