Role Summary

Reporting to the Vice-President, Internal Audit, the Regional Manager, European Audit is responsible for coordinating and executing the regional audit plan as well as resourcing, planning and organizing the internal audit function in the region.     

The Regional Manager would currently manage a team of cosourced auditors from a Big 4 accounting firm providing training, coaching and leadership to the regional team for execution of the Company’s Internal Audit plan. The Regional Manager would  be responsible for audit quality and results that ensure effectiveness and compliance with policies, processes and internal control frameworks surrounding financial statements and related controls, business risk management, legal compliance, and ethics & integrity. The role is also responsible for managing the regional internal auditors conducting forensic audits and/or internal investigations and ensuring that ethics and compliance concerns raised by employees, Management, business partners, Internal Audit or third parties are promptly and thoroughly investigated and appropriately remediated.   

Problem solving, superior organization skills, diplomacy, and ability to develop and manage people are important to this role.

Key Responsibilities

Audit, Execution and Regional Management

- Managing the co-sourced internal auditors in Europe.

- Reviews the proposed audit plan for the region to ensure the plan is responsive to and aligned with the risk profile of Magna and its businesses.

- Takes ownership of the audit plan for the region and manages the regional staff planning activities, ensuring infrastructure, staff numbers and skill mix support to execute the plan.

- Establishes the regional risk-based audit program and scope for each financial audit engagement or project.

- Manages the execution of regional internal audit activities including SOX testing, projects, and specified procedures.

- Reviews audit work completed by staff for sufficiency of scope and accuracy and to ensure that internal auditors are performing quality work in accordance with established professional standards.

- Reviews audit issues to ensure internal control weaknesses and root causes are identified, properly defined, documented and audit reports provide value to management.

- Assesses the overall internal control environment using audit findings and audit documentation.

. Reviews internal audit reports to ensure that reports are clear, concise, identify root causes with practical solutions, and ultimately provide value to management.

- Achieve high acceptance and implementation of audit recommendations by management.

- Develop strong business relationships with key leaders of Magna's groups and divisions to be able to conduct audits effectively.

- Identifies and communicates regional business risks and relevant business information to internal audit management, ensuring country specific risks are considered in development of the audit plan.

- Counsels internal auditors and provides regular feedback and annual performance evaluation and career development recommendations for the team members.

- Coordinates the administrative activities at the regional level.

Investigations

- Works with the Vice President, Internal Audit and the Investigations Ethics Hotline Manager to support the execution of Internal Audit's regional strategy for investigations and fraud risk management.

- Manages the execution of regional investigations to ensure their timely execution, communication, and documentation in line with departmental standards.

- May engage cross-functionally to assist with the conduct of investigative research and analysis for well-written due diligence reports on forensic audits and investigations.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Knowledge and Education

- CIA or CPA are required.

- CFE is necessary and could be passed subsequent to hiring.

- CISA designations are an asset.

Work Experience

- At least 8-10 years of work experience; including people management experience.

Skills and competencies

- Strong knowledge of internal auditing and controls standards and extensive experience in conducting internal audits, preferably within automotive or manufacturing industry.

- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster and develop strong relationships with stakeholders.

- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Ability to handle and diffuse situations of conflict.

- Ability to face high levels of adversity during meetings and interviews at all levels.

- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines.

- Demonstrate a high level of integrity and ability to work with and protect confidential information.

- Understanding of ERM systems, SAP and CMS considered an asset.

Additional Information

25% travel may be required.
