Role Summary

This position reports directly to the Tooling Department Manager and is responsible for the general and specific job duties as described below:

General Job Duties

  • To exhibit a fair and consistent management approach that follows the principles outlined in The Magna Employee’s Charter to ensure a satisfied and productive employee workplace.
  • To identify growth and developmental opportunities and on-going training needs of personnel that will provide for an overall positive working environment.
  • To follow Company policies and display conduct expected of Decostar employees as described in the employee handbook.
  • To persuade and support the following of Company policies and business objectives in the daily management of the operations of the Company.
  • To meet and maintain all customer quality standards as well as the standards of Decostar. 

Specific Job Duties

  • To direct and follow Decostar Industries health and safety policies and procedures that provide for a safe and healthful workplace for all Decostar Industries employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Exemplify the Charter principle for a safe and healthful workplace by correcting unsafe behaviors, eliminate or reduce the possibility of an employee injury due to hazardous conditions.
  • Immediately respond, in a positive and proactive manner to any Decostar employee’s health and safety concern or suggestion. 
  • Immediacy report any accidents, incidents or near misses to the Safety Department and complete the required Accident Reporting Forms within 24 hours.
  • Complete all required safety-related inspections. 
  • Do not install or make changes to any equipment or machinery that may jeopardize the health and safety of any employee.
  • Ensure all employees, under your guidance, have received all required training to perform their job safely.
  • To lead and direct Company health and safety objectives that provide for a safe and healthful workplace for all Decostar employees. 
  • Plan and supervise the daily activities of all tooling technicians to ensure work and resources are planned/utilized efficiently and effectively.
  • Supervise, execute, and organize, schedule modifications, repairs and preventative maintenance to molds within specified timelines.
  • Maintain updated and accurate documentation on all repairs, maintenance and parts inventory relating to the molds.
  • Understand Decostar tooling specifications and ensure all production tools meet the requirements.
  • Assist molding department technicians by troubleshooting tooling related failures.
  • Develop and implement training program and provide leadership for various CI teams.
  • Ensure all work guidance’s are updated and accurate.
  • Maintain high departmental standard of cleanliness in Injection and RIM molding areas.

Skills, Experience & Education

  • Six years practical experience as a journeyman (apprentice mold maker).
  • Six years production in injection molding with a GED or high school diploma is accepted but 3 years of experience will be accepted if accompanied by a degree or technical diploma.
  • Two years of experience as a Tool and Die Maker or Mold Maker.
  • Must have excellent welding skills and experience with machine tool equipment.
  • Must be able to read and interpret tooling drawings and have basic electrical skills.
  • Must have experience polishing and fitting tooling components.
  • Must have Associate’s Degree in related & technical field of study. Six years work related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.  A combination of schooling toward a degree & work experience will be considered.
