Role Summary

The Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing day-to day accounting functions, the maintenance of the balance sheet by supporting general accounting activities including the preparation and entry/posting of various journal entries, and supporting accounts receivable, and accounts payable as issues arise.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Accounting designation CA/CGA/CMA required
  • Undergraduate degree preferred
  • Five plus years of related experience required
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment which includes stamping and assembly would be an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Good command of the English language both verbal, written and the ability to communicate to the customer.
  • Must be able to work in a strict confidential environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the month end process from reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations through preparing financial statements and variance analysis.
  • Supervision of Accounts Payable Clerks and Staff Accountant providing support and guidance.
  • Maintains fixed asset subledgers and records monthly depreciation.
  • Ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close.
  • Provide financial analysis and advice as required to Senior Management (GM/AGM/Controller).

Other Key Duties

  • Ensure that a complete and accurate set of accounting records are maintained according to generally accepted accounting principles and following corporate procedures and internal controls.
  • Assists with preparation of the business plan and periodic updated forecasts as well as subsequent monthly variance analysis.
  • Leads the preparation of the annual audit file and co-ordinates with external auditors in their subsequent examination of the division’s financial statements.
  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of tax package requirements as set out by Magna Tax.
  • Review and maintain financial computer system requirements.
  • Champions archiving of files etc. from all department, ensuing meet government regulations.

Physical Demands

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer, may require local travel.
  • Must have a valid passport & drivers license as travel is required on occasion.
  • May be exposed to noise and vibrations.
  • Wears all PPE as required.
