Role Summary

The Weld Technician conducts tests and evaluates data to assist personnel in development and application of new or improved welding process or equipment, welding techniques, procedures, and practices. Recommends new developments and applications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess either a valid Certificate of Qualification for a relevant skilled trade, or equivalent in post-secondary education and subsequent training.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of working experience in a similar role, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • Demonstrable and strong command of the English language in both written and spoken forms.
  • Possession of the tools required to successfully carry out the responsibilities of the job.
  • Proficiency in FANUC robot programming.
  • Pre-existing knowledge of MEDAR and Lincoln welders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and execute the preventative maintenance program.
  • Safe and efficient repair and maintenance to Plant facilities and equipment as required including working with external contractors.
  • Develop and standardize resistance welding processes with various materials (HSLA steels, AHSS, HSS)
  • Implement systems to elongate electrode life (stepper programs, dressers, etc.)
  • Respond to Corrective Action Reports (define root cause, implement corrections, and evaluate implementation)
  • Get involved in troubleshooting of resistance (spot and projection) welding issues and MIG welding.
  • Develop technical documentation system for processes.

  • Skilled in root cause analysis, troubleshooting techniques and resolution of equipment failures.
  • Understanding of communications methods and the appropriate use/frequency as circumstances warrant.
  • Creative problem-solving skills are essential.
