Role Summary

This position is to support all quality related activities with the supply base, to interact with the buyer to ensure all vendors of production materials provide quality parts on time. The SQE is also responsible for ensuring that our production vendors have continually improving quality systems that meet our customers’ expectations, and that risk within the supply chain is being managed and controlled. The SQE is also responsible for driving effective corrective action resolution processes. During program launch, in-sourcing and out-sourcing the SQE is responsible for the communication and completion of all APQP/PPAP activities.

Key Responsibilities

Works with P&F personnel and suppliers on APQP and with cross-functional teams to meet customer deadlines on new program launches

Audits suppliers and identifies opportunities for improvements with the supply-base

Follows up on Supplier compliance with ISO/IATF-16949 requirements

Approves Supplier PPAP’s and Run-at-Rates

Evaluates Supplier Quality Issues utilizing appropriate problem-solving techniques

Tracks Supplier Performance

Ensures timely and effective closure of Supplier CRs (Corrective Action Requests)

Full understanding of Magna Supply Chain Manual

Ensures Supplier IMDS submissions are completed in a timely manner

Contributes to Continual Improvement and cost reduction activities, both in general and specifically related to individual duties

Respond to customer requirements and acts as a customer liaison when needed

Assist in the investigation and resolution of customer corrective (CR)  and preventative actions (PR)  in a timely manner (review customer Portals and keep the team updated-please see attached Customer Electronic Interface Systems)

Reports out and actively participate in addressing internal quality issues (monitor  scrap on a monthly basis and help team to identify and address top quality issues)

Monitor and report out weekly /monthly Key Performance Indicators and initiate appropriate action if gaps are identified


Key Qualifications/Requirements

Grade 12 or GED (General Education Diploma)

Post-Secondary Graduate with a Technical Degree/Diploma in Quality Engineering (CQE or equivalent)

Minimum 3 years related experience in an automotive Tier-1 environment

Computer proficiency in business applications (MS Office, Excel, Word, Access)

Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and plant personnel

Completed Training: IATF-16949 Internal Auditor, MSA Gauge Control, SPC, APQP, PPAP, GD&T

Demonstrated ability to use precision measurement tools

Demonstrated ability to conduct root-cause analysis, using various problem-solving techniques

Strong organizational skills, self-directed, strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills

Ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines

Very good time management skills

Ability to work to support OEM customer needs

Basic knowledge of metrology

Physically able to perform the essential duties of the position

Ability to travel within North America and overseas for business meetings and/or training
