Group Description

This position will be a part of a new start-up Joint Venture Seating JIT Assembly plant located in the Detroit, MIchigan.

Role Summary

This position will be a part of a new start-up Joint Venture Seating JIT Assembly plant located in the Detroit, Michigan.

Launch Team - Seat Builders are empowered and expected to provide the service, tools, technical knowledge and training needed to engage and empower our team associates.  Each Launch Team - Seat Builder should strive for a safe work environment, high product quality, high productivity and emphasis on continuous improvement.  Launch Team - Seat Builders are expected to inspire and teach their team associates on all areas of the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs seat teardowns and/or minor rework offline.
  • Completes assembly tasks in accordance with standardized work processes, quality goals and manufacturing schedule.
  • Rotates to other stations on the production line per rotation schedule.
  • Controls non-conforming material.
  • Support training needs during normal, steady state production periods.
  • Utilize the off-line training cell to sign-off employee’s training records Reports defects in parts/material to the Team Leader, Production Supervisor or Quality immediately.
  • Proactively participates in root cause analysis of quality problems within the team and with other department team members.
  • Maintains integrity of tooling and equipment necessary to perform work; makes minor adjustments on equipment as needed.
  • Update employee training records and forward the records to their Supervisor for approval and retention of the training
  • Confer with management, supervisors and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, business initiatives and technologies.
  • Conduct training sessions covering specified areas such as on-the-job training, refresher training, etc.
  • Test trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Report on progress of employees under guidance during training periods.
  • Assist employees with problems concerning "how to" perform specific tasks related to their job rotation.
  • Make suggestions on improving work procedures on the shop floor
  • Coordinate training schedule with the training demands of the production and materials department within the business unit Initiates, recommends or provides solutions through appropriate channels; participates in Kaizen/MPS activities.
  • Provides training to team members and maintains up-to-date training matrices for all team members.
  • Works in a manner that promotes teamwork among fellow associates.
  • Completes all paperwork associated with the job assignment in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
  • Reports all unsafe and unhealthy conditions or acts to management immediately.
  • Reports injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately to your Supervisor.
  • Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with company policies, Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Completed other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification/Licensure:  

High School diploma or equivalent.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous seat assembly
  • Cross-training

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  

  • Good written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Team oriented, communicates well with others, and able to interact with people at all levels and departments. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Detailed oriented and excellent documentation skills. 
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Work performed in a manufacturing plant environment. Exposed to varying temperature within plant depending upon external temperature.  Continuously performs fine finger movements, grips/grasps, push/pulls, bends/stoops, stands, and lifts and carries parts up to thirty (30) lbs.  Must be available to work overtime including weekends and holidays.
