Role Summary

Under general direction of Paint Engineers, provides technical support in Paint Department to achieve the highest production output possible.  Participates in continuous improvement processes.  Designs layouts and updates equipment to support Paint Department.  Solves mechanical problems and gives direction for proper repairs.  Assigns tasks and trains other staff as needed.  Performs other duties as necessary in support of Paint Department. Work involves irregular work schedules and exposure to chemicals, high voltage from electrostatic equipment, loud noise, and hazardous waste.  This position is for a greenfield facility located in Southeast Michigan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides technical support in Paint Department by monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving process issues. Reviews production reports and parts for process related problems. Coordinates efforts and implements proper processes and procedures to resolve problems. 
  • Participates in continuous improvement processes for Paint Department. Maintains, controls, and reduces process costs.      
  • Designs layouts and updates equipment to support of Paint Department.  Processes paint equipment and manual sprayers for new colors used in production. 
  • Creates and documents new procedures to support new business.    
  • Solves mechanical problems and gives direction for proper repairs.
  • Assigns tasks and trains other staff as needed.  Participates in team meetings. 
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of projects.
Key Qualifications/Requirements

Level I

1. High School Diploma plus minimum three years paint experience; or equivalent.
 
2. Must have a high degree of comprehension and judgment for effective problem solving.
 
3. Must have excellent visual skills to see and differentiate paint colors, paint film thickness, etc. 
 
4. Must have a good understanding of application equipment in relation to solvent blends, paint mixing, temperature, humidity, and other factors critical to the job.
 
5. Demonstrated good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate with internal and external contacts and work in a team environment.


Level II (in addition to above requirements)

1. Minimum five years experience with paint and/or paint systems experience including, but not limited to, proportioning equipment, two component paint mixing, curing processes on plastic substrates, spray guns, automatic pumping equipment, etc.; or equivalent.
 
2. Must be able to work independently under minimal work direction.
