Role Summary

This position will be a part of a new start-up Joint Venture Seating JIT Assembly plant located in the Detroit, Michigan. Under the direction of the Quality Manager, Quality Compliance Engineers plan, develop, and implement a company's technical compliance capabilities according to local, national, and international standards. Organizations that develop products or processes need compliance engineers to make sure their business is following the required legal compliance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the company's technical compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conducting tests and studies into the company's product compliance.
  • Producing reports on compliance testing, developments, and processes.
  • Instituting best-practice procedures for compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Developing strategies and implementation plans for compliance-related matters.
  • Explaining and defining compliance protocols and measures to stakeholders and relevant authorities.
  • Managing complaints and technical issues relating to product design and manufacturing.
  • Advising management on compliance-related matters.
  • Checking the status of various business operations to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Ford (Pre-Launch, Advanced Product Quality Planning, and Production release programs)
  • Provide assistance to Quality Engineers with regard to AQP and PPAP methodology execution.
  • Supports Customer Presentations with regard to supply chain management process.
  • Conduct Potential Supplier Reviews, tracks suppliers progress to meet LM Manufacturing expectations, process supplier’s approval status with team members from Purchasing and Program Management.
  • Participates as Quality representative for the bid-recap process and approves as required through Agile.
  • Supports Supply Base ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 certifications status tracking and maintenance.
  • Provides communications to LM Manufacturing supply base regarding industry requirements (Heat Treat, Forever Requirements, SREA, PSO and Flammability)
  • Provides ISO.IATF training for new employees on a monthly basis.
  • Authors, reviews/updates and maintains SOP’s, Work Instructions and Forms to support the Novi certification process.
  • Manage Internal / External Audit efforts / schedule, regarding ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 Certification.
  • Supports the requirements as detailed in Standard Operating Procedure 8000 (Quality Management System).
  • Administer CAQ database; control all department documents and manage the system; monitor approvals, and monitor audit frequency in accordance with IATF/ISO procedures
  • Manage the 5S/LPA/HSE audit systems, develop and update KOI information, update the boards on the shop floor and in the meeting areas, schedule meetings and follow up on actions with owners, ensure system is being followed and adhered too, ensure audit attainment is being met and scores are trending upwards
  • Manage and control document archives
  • Participate in the development, implementation and updating of quality systems and procedures
  • Adhere to applicable quality systems and IATF16949 standards
  • Ensure employees work in the manner consistent with the organizations established objectives and targets utilizing protective equipment, devices, measures, and procedures as promulgated by state and federal regulations. Establish clear goals for workplace health and safety. Complete safety talks, safety meetings, and required training occur, as defined.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • 3 to 5 years preferred of diversified quality related experience.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, viable concept development, and proficiency with statistical methods.
  • Membership and professional certification through the American Society of Quality (ASQ) preferred.
  • Knowledge of government and OEM specifications in area of expertise.
  • Strong communication skills; verbal, written, technical presentations.
  • Proficient skills in applicable manufacturing process. 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully coordinate and complete multiple tasks within and across departments to meet established and changing deadlines.
  • Proficient with computer software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Full working knowledge of ISO/IATF audit process. 
  • Working knowledge of document control implementation and process.

Additional Information

Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments.  Normal mobility to move around an office  and shop floor environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.  Continuously walks and stands.   Frequently performs fine finger movements, grips/grasps, push/pulls, bends/stoops, and lifts and carries parts up to thirty (30) lbs.  Must be available to work any shift as well as weekends and holidays as needed.
