Role Summary

Responsible for leading the European Automotive Industry Trends Group in Corporate R&D including the interfaces within Magna.  In addition, the Dir, Automotive Industry Trends Europe at Corporate R&D will support the development of a global Magna technology gap analysis Car of the Future and Factory of the Future in alignment with the Corporate R&D Functions and the Product groups. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the European Team of Trend Analysis for Car of the Future, and Factory of the Future with key focus on selection on the defined future technologies to support the Magna growth strategy considering our boundary conditions for the R&D budget.
  • Support in the Interface with Group Engineering and Corp. R&D. Networking and Support with necessary group representatives.
  • Summarize future automotive industry trends with input by selected key OEM´s and CPA support. 
  • Support to identify gaps that lead to R&D programs
  • Author, develop and manage problem statements
  • Lead the Trend Analysis Process for assigned areas.
  • Cooperate with corporate R&D (including Core Product Group)
  • Collaborate with cross group project leads to create common Magna situation reports
  • Manage assigned work packages with the CPMs to support cross group projects
  • Support to identify gaps that lead to cross group projects, cross group activities, Proofs of Concept (PoCs) or similar
  • Lead assigned cross group projects, cross group activities, Proofs of Concept (PoCs)
  • Support the definition and the development of key technologies in the targeted building block areas to the vehicle domains and Industry 4.0 building blocks with the trend analysis.
  • Supports the implementation of Corporate R&D organization to enable the growth strategy within Magna
  • Support the strategy initiatives with product groups and Magna executives
  • Implement aligned job responsibilities and processes to enable a seamless collaboration with Corporate R&D and key parties
  • Compile trend presentations and update reports to support Corporate R&D strategy
  • Keep various Magna organizations and Magna R&D team abreast of trend developments.
  • Continuously adhere to and apply the Magna Employee’s Charter to all employees
  • Ensure support of the growing business is met with continuous development of bench strength
  • Develop and support One Team – One voice culture across all areas of Corporate R&D

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years in managing technical tasks at an OEM or major tier one supplier
  • University degree or similar in Engineering or another related Science field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics) with qualifications and experience in research or development (preferably complete vehicle functions)
  • Extensive knowledge of complete vehicle features, functions and systems. 
  • Ability to apply extensive and advanced principles, theories and concepts, and contribute to the development of solutions to complex problems that require innovation and ingenuity.
  • People and leadership skills. Excellent team player.
  • Strong spoken and written English language skills. 
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Process, Assembly methods and materials used in automotive products
  • Understanding of automotive other industry/customer related standards
  • Excellent presentational skills and interpersonal skills 
  • Effective problem-solving skills and decision-making skills 

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Local and/or international travel may be required.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
