Position Overview


The Expert for Functional Safety is responsible for tailoring, planning, execution and progress monitoring for the functional safety activities and for the development of the technical safety concepts. These activities are done for new future product, currently in the innovation phase. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Perform ISO26262 project tailoring of the safety related activities (e.g. regarding requirements for reuse of elements, SEooC or distributed development, System/HW/SW development scope, ASIL-dependent requirements, production, etc.)  
  • Plan functional safety activities in alignment within the projects. Functional Safety Manager is the creator and owner of the Safety Plan, which is maintained and updated during the project lifecycle 
  • Drive execution and monitor the progress of all safety activities during the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with respect to the Safety Plan and ISO26262.  
  • Development of the technical safety concept in cooperation with System, HW and SW architects (definition of safety measures/mechanisms) 
  • Performing Safety analysis according to ISO26262 based on safety plan and providing safety analysis reports, which are used for definition and verification of the system architectural design and technical safety concept: (FMEA), FTA, DFA, FMEDA-Calculation of HW metrics 
  • Interface to customers and suppliers with respect to functional safety (responsible for Development Interface Agreements (DIA) and safety technical topics) 
  • Creator and owner of the Safety Case  



  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering / Software Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent 
  • 8+ years of relevant experience regarding the Responsibility / Activities (listed above) for automotive development projects (mandatory) 

Special Knowledge and Skills


  • Understanding of complex automotive mechatronic systems 
  • Expert knowledge of the ISO 26262 standard required 
  • Knowledge of Software and Hardware development processes in automotive industry required 
  • Knowledge of Automotive SPICE (ISO 15504) is desirable 
  • Expert knowledge of safety analysis ((HARA), FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, DFA) 
  • Expertise in requirements management and configuration management 
  • Know-how of documentation management and automotive change management 
  • Understanding of automotive industry standards 
  • Strong organizational/communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment 
  • Excellent people and leadership skills 
  • Strong spoken and written English language skills
