Position Overview

Candidate in this position is responsible for conducting activities towards research, development, demonstration and analysis of power electronic components, systems and technologies for electrified vehicles to support corporate strategy development. Activities include modeling, simulation, controls, function development and SW coding, prototyping and testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review technical literature, state-of-the art technologies and market trends to stay informed about emerging and current technologies and methods in the area of powertrain and chassis controls including component controls.
  • Work with suppliers and engineering service partners to analyze, test and integrate technologies into Magna products.
  • Solve engineering challenges in function development and controls through innovative cutting edge solutions.
  • Explore subject area within powertrain-chassis domain for novel methodologies and concepts in controls.
  • Analyze Engineering results and proposes product changes to determine feasibility, improvement of component and systems, and functional and performance specifications
  • Has the responsibility for task schedules by monitoring task progress, co-coordinates activities, and calculating time requirements, sequencing task elements and resolving problems. Prepare and present task progress reports
  • Maintain proper filing systems to ensure all information, (electronic or hard copy), is stored according to departments requirements
  • Support the corporate research & development teams with technical projects involving advanced function and controls.
  • Work with internal and external teams to innovate, develop, integrate and validate control technologies and methods.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications and. establishing personal networks
  • Present papers, participate in symposia and committees on behalf of the group
  • Capable to demonstrate sustained innovation and creativity leading to significant project accomplishments without direct technical supervision. Supervision provided as required on assignments as well as on broader general objectives and limits
  • Continuing education and/or training is critical as technology evolves
     

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ in a related area, or equivalent combination of education/experience. This level is not reached based on seniority and satisfactory performance alone. It is based on outstanding qualifications and the needs of the department. Able to act as an authority in her/his field.

Education / Experience

  • Master’s degree or above in Engineering or a “Hard” Science field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics) with exceptional qualifications and experience in research or development (product, material or process)

Special Knowledge / Skills

  • Strong spoken and written English language skills.
  • Excellent professional communication skills (written and verbal) and good presence
  • Strong technical and analytical competence in related areas
  • Ability to involve in and contribute to technical discussions in the assigned work areas
  • Ability to summarize essential information in brief executive summary document
  • Ability to apply extensive and advanced principles, theories, concepts, and contribute to the development of solutions to complex problems that require innovation and ingenuity
  • Ability to recognize new science and technologies relevant within existing trends and business strategy and extend them into new applications
  • Technical ability and creativity to initiate, direct, and control specific projects
  • Knowledge of development and quality processes like V-cycle, AutomotiveSpice
  • Knowledge of safety processes like functional safety (ISO 26262)
  • Understanding of quality related industry/customer standards
  • Proficient computer knowledge/skill; Microsoft Office & Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow expert level
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive data protocols (CAN, Ethernet) and tools (CANape, CANalyzer, dSPACE Targetlink, embedded coder,…)
  • Working knowledge of project leading incl agile development
  • Experience with development and implementation of novel controls methods into embedded systems, versioning systems (e.g. git) and continuous integration tools
     

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Up to 25% travel could be international or domestic
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use hands to finger, handle, and feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and have adequate mobility to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. 
  • Required Responsible for working in compliance with the provisions of the Health and Safety Act as well as any rules or standards otherwise specified by OSHA or MIOSHA or any other government regulations.  Expected to exercise caution in all work activities and report any unsafe conditions, injuries, or near misses to the appropriate supervisor
