Position Overview

The position will focus on the Program Management process in Corporate R&D including the interfaces to the Product Groups and Corporate functions like Sales and Marketing, Legal, Purchasing. This role will take a lead in improving/redefining Magna’s IDP process for Magna Corporate R&D, and in addition, will be an integral part of the development on a global Magna technology road map for the Car of the Future and Factory of the Future in alignment with the Magna Product Groups. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attract, develop, and retain top talent to ensure a continuous Corporate R&D development process. 
  • Continuously adhere to and apply the Magna Employee’s Charter to all employees. 
  • Ensure support of the growing business is met with continuous development of bench strength. 
  • Develop and support One Team – One voice culture across all areas of Corporate R&D. 
  • Maintain a complete understanding of Magna’s existing products portfolio and manufacturing processes for the Car of the Future and Factory of the Future. 
  • Maintain awareness of Magna Corporate and group technology needs, using these to search for technologies of relevance. 
  • Support special programs initiate by CEO and CSMO. 
  • Update reports to support Corporate R&D strategy. 
  • Keep various Magna organizations and Magna R&D team abreast of program developments. 
  • Develop strategic relationships with key technical representatives at the OEMs. 
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned 


Program Management & Business Office

  • Lead the consolidation of the Program Management disciplines for Corporate R&D and Cross-Group Projects as needed 
  • Lead specific projects as directed 
  • Be responsible for timing, IDP scorecard, project scorecard, business evaluation and financial analysis of the projects under supervision 
  • Be an expert on the IDP process and coach the team to develop the projects towards the completion of the deliverables 
  • Monitor the IDP deliverables throughout the project and ensure it is updated contingent to the deliverables necessary to each phase 
  • Be an expert on business model generation 
  • Be an expert on value proposition design 
  • Be an expert on testing business ideas 
  • Support the preparation of the Project Prioritization for the Car of the Future, and Factory of the Future with key focus on selection of the most promising projects to support the Magna growth strategy (considering our boundary conditions for the R&D budget). 
  • Lead the consolidation of the information necessary for the Program/ Project Steering meetings Reviews supporting the Program/Project Managers on setting agendas, running meetings, providing templates for content with gate deliverables, review and suggest changes and asking “right questions” linked to the Car of the Future and Factory of the Future. 
  • Provide active program management and engineering involvement as directed. 
  • Develop a working environment aimed at partnering with the product groups to leverage the product innovations to the targeted scale.  
  • Supports the team with the link to the appropriate interfaces by finding appropriate contact for any help required. Introduce any topic of support needed, and review status of interaction. 
  • Develop with the team a flexible and innovative process for project prioritization, project definition and project development including gate reviews by creating a list of processes required for successful completion of goals.  
  • Provide feedback, support, and guidance to the team. Actively participate in technical collaborations and partnerships with universities, start-up companies and research labs to fill the innovation pipeline for targeted building bock areas. 
  • Implement aligned job responsibilities and processes to enable a seamless collaboration with Corporate R&D and key parties. 


  • 10+ year of experience in Electronic & Software Development in a management role 
  • or 10 years of automotive industry experience 
  • or 10 years of experience in a technical/engineering capacity 
  • Management experience in technical, sales and business development preferably in the product or R&D segment of the automotive industry. 
  • Technical aptitude to understand the global automotive engineering product portfolio. 

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering or a “Hard” Science field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or Chemistry) with exceptional qualifications and experience in research or development (product, material or process); 
  • MBA 

Special Knowledge / Skills

  • Structural working approach for strategic development  
  • Excellent presentation, communication, influencing, project planning and negotiation skills 
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills. 

Physical Demands / Work Environment

Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct a normal amount of work at a computer. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Requires 30% travel (International and Domestic)
