Role Summary

Under the guidance of a qualified Tradesman, the apprentice is responsible for assisting with and/or carrying out inspections, repairs, maintenance and modifications of machinery, equipment, and facilities. The Apprentice is responsible for adhering to all Ministry of Skills and Development regulations and training requirements.
Apprenticeship Hours Pay Scale:  $28.56 - $38.92

Key Responsibilities

    Repair and maintain Injection, SMC, EPP and RIM tools (surface damage, parting lines, engineering changes, cylinders, seal off, etc.)
    Perform preventative maintenance to ensure all moulds are in constant operating condition
    Troubleshooting of moulds/tools
    Support production to minimize downtime on machines due to tooling issues
    Operate various types of machinery such as but not limited to drill press, milling machine, surface grinders, lathe and spotting press
    Operate all machinery in a safe manner while manufacturing parts and components for various departments within Polycon
    Maintain all safety protocols
    Use various types of hand tools consisting of but not limited to various grinders, files, stones, felt pads, gauges
    Working with various types of steels and plastics to manufacture parts and components
    Contribute and implement continuous improvement initiatives
    Maintain 5S and other department and Company standards
    Perform other duties as assigned
 

Key Qualifications/Requirements

    Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
    3rd or 4th Year Apprentice – enrolled in a recognized College program
    Proficient in English (both verbal and written)
    Any related work experience/training in a manufacturing environment is an asset
    Able to work independently with minimal supervision
    Has a positive attitude towards learning new ideas/skills 
    Excellent mathematical skills and attention to details 
    Must meet the minimum physical requirements to perform the essential duties of the job
