Role Summary

AME leads projects that drive innovation and increased automation on new and existing equipment. The AME is responsible for researching and implementing the use of advanced technology in manufacturing operations. The AME is also Leads the development and/or improvement of manufacturing processes. Specifies quote, purchase and runoff capital equipment, tooling, and systems required for automated manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs, builds, and qualifies automated assembly equipment
  • Evaluates and estimates production time, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Influences and impacts part design related to Design for Assembly, error proofing, fixture design, torque strategy development and incorporating quality improvement measures.
  • Is able to perform the necessary proof of concept using DOE methods, and validation testing to ensure that the product meets costumer requirements.
  • Understanding of GD&T, datum dimensioning and tolerance stack-ups. 
  • Manages Manufacturing Engineering projects to scope, on time and within budget requirements.
  • Develops and maintains quality process documentation, including Process Flow diagrams, PFMEA's, Standard Work Instructions and Set-up sheets.
  • Provides engineering support for plant operation. Troubleshoot daily production problems using root cause analysis methods as they occur.
  • Creates and revise equipment, tooling, and gage drawings.
  • Facilitate communication between departments.
  • Manages product engineering change implementation as they occur.
  • Assists with instruction and training of employees to achieve company goals.
  • Provide technical direction within the department.
  • Provides guidance for production workers, technicians, and interns.

Environmental, Health, and Safety Responsibilities

Performs all work in compliance with Magna Mirrors – Holland Mirrors Safety and Environmental policies and procedures as well as all Federal, State and local laws. Understand the importance of conformance with all safety and environmental procedures of the environmental and safety management systems, including emergency response.
• Report any unsafe condition or action to his or her supervisor.
• Report any work-related injury to his or her supervisor within 8 hours.
• Never operate a machine or equipment until trained in the operating procedures, hazards, and safeguards and has been assigned to do so by the employer.
• Never remove, displace, destroy, or carry off any safeguard or interfere with the use by any other person.
• Use required personal protective equipment or devices where required.
• Understand your responsibility to the environmental programs, including ISO14001. Understand the actual or potential environmental consequences, when deviating from specified work instructions.
• Attend Environmental, Health and Safety training as required.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; or equivalent.  Demonstrated basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing and other current techniques related to manufacturing engineering.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills in order to communicate with other functional areas both internally and externally for successful completion of projects.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to influence decisions that affect assigned projects.
