Role Summary
Under the direction of the engineering manager, the stamping tooling engineer understands the needs of the project customers and translates them into specifications for the engineering team to implement, (e.g., electrical, mechanical, software etc.) and checks that the product meets the project customers’ expectations. The stamping tooling engineer is also responsible to lead the global effort in developing processes and methods to improve quality of work products and efficiency of the team and designs that can be reused across projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Highly visible role, the Tooling Engineer manages technical aspects for Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing to deliver world-class products on time and cost-effectively.
• Supports Feasibility, DFM, Construction, Tryout & Home line.
• Support up front design development of tooling interaction as well with suppliers to create new manufacturing methods and control strategies to achieve specifications and ensure a flawless execution during launch.
• Approve stamping die designs and manages suppliers’ performance to build schedule.
• Take ownership of the technical management of the products
• Support technical questions and follow up to ensure all action items are completed.
• Manage stamping suppliers with priorities, deadlines, and quantities, driving suppliers for on time deliverables.
• Track and manage Press Line Trial for new dies and Engineering Changes
• Feedback dies issues to Engineering team for resolution.
• Manage Engineering Changes with supply base to ensure successful implementation.
• Plan and manage Tooling Maintenance
• Schedules and monitors all forming activities, from design kick-off, tooling, and engineering builds through mass production.
• Maintain documentation of internal or external communication, processing data, and other pertinent product information
• Support commercial and costs activities, fixture costs, tooling costs, test costs, etc., during NPI engineering, builds.
• Track cost approval, PO, invoice to payment, including initial budget, ECR and cost modifications.
Assists development with new process or materials as requested.
• Short term travel to suppliers required.
• Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
• 5+ years of Program Management or Tool Engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment or more. Class “A” experience preferred.
• Tandem, progressive, blanking, transfer stamping.
• Demonstrated teamwork skills.
• Working knowledge of current manufacturing techniques – tooling, metal stamping, assembly, and testing, GD&T, SPC, & blueprint reading.
• Working knowledge of production and quality control procedures used in a manufacturing environment.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Effective skills in establishing and maintaining working relationships with a wide range of individuals from varying economic, social, and educational backgrounds in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical, time management and analysis skills
• Knowledge of material properties, mechanics of materials and how these materials react when subjected to varying stamping conditions.
• Must be capable of working with peers, subordinates, supervisors, and management on a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to remain current with state-of-the-art technologies and practices related to the metal stamping as well as develop innovative solutions when necessary.
• Able to use MS Office- Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Word
