Role Summary

Under the direction of the Materials Superintendent, plans, directs and coordinates activities relating to the materials department activities including safety, quality, productivity and employee relations.  Supervises the Materials department’s Team Leaders, Sequencer/Tuggers and Forklift Truck Drivers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervises daily activities of the Materials department’s Team Leaders, Sequencer/Tuggers and Forklift Truck Drivers.
  • Plans, directs and coordinates movement of material within the JIT manufacturing facility.
  • Assist the Materials Superintendent in appropriate manpower requirements.
  • Assist in managing material cycle counts and annual physical inventory reconciliation.
  • Leads process improvement projects: productivity, quality, ergonomics, etc.
  • Trains employees on their job duties and responsibilities; crosstrains as necessary.
  • Ensures employees are consistently adhering to standardized work processes and rotation schedules.
  • Ensures all Company policies, procedures, plant standards and safety rules are consistently adhered to.
  • Collaborates with the Department and HR Managers in administering disciplinary action, when necessary.
  • Maintains employees’ time related to the Attendance and Time-Off Policies
  • Provides timely feedback on work performance and performance reviews.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • Minimum of two (2) years of materials supervisory experience or a minimum of five (5) years of materials team leadership experience in a tier-one automotive manufacturing facility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team oriented and able to interact with people at all levels and departments.
  • Excellent problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Detail oriented and excellent documentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and OSHA guidelines.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MRP.
