PRIMARY ROLE:
The Team Leader has three primary responsibilities: To maintain material flow, identify problems, and to correct problems to ensure maximum productivity. The position performs material handling duties and provides support in the form of direction, guidance, relief, training, problem resolution and encouragement to personnel within the shipping/receiving, and shop floor area. The Team Leader coordinates activities to ensure all standards are maintained and quality, costs, production/schedule and maintenance requirements are met. They will be responsible for accountability of the team on their shift and work with the shift supervisor to make sure appropriate coverage is maintained.
JOB SUMMARY:
Using prescribed procedures, will receive, check, handle, store, and prepare raw materials for manufacturing and finished goods for shipment to the customer. Prepare and issue raw materials for production areas and throughout Magna Engineered Glass. Ensures that all machines are kept supplied. Will use all types of material handling equipment to load and unload trailers. This role will work with the shift supervisor make sure their respective shift is covered in the warehouse and the production floor as needed with the appropriate personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties below will be performed at different degrees dependent upon the assigned team (Receiving, Shipping, or Floor). The duties must be performed with a high degree of accuracy and concern for meeting our internal and external customer delivery requirements. Responsibilities include hi-lo operation, material handling and inspection. This position is required to support manufacturing operations including overtime.
- Practice and maintain safe work habits and conditions (using trailer jack, wheel chocks, personal protective equipment per company requirements, etc.) Follows daily hi-lo safety checklist.
- Conduct start of shift review of previous day (or shift) results, highlighting any problems or achievements, communicate delivery issues, discuss recent continuous improvements implemented and address any concerns from the materials team while encouraging improvement ideas from the team
- Operates lift truck and other material moving equipment; reports any abnormal functions of equipment. Recharges batteries. Should be able to contact supervisor due to equipment malfunctions.
- Follows production schedules in keeping materials and other supplies in flow: Picks and delivers necessary component parts for each operation.
- Checks finished parts to be sure proper labeling procedures and stacking methods are followed. Adds additional identification as necessary.
- Maintains ongoing housekeeping of all plant areas.
- Transport raw materials and supplies from receiving area to warehouse or work-in-process areas (point of use storage areas).
- Assists support personnel with hi-lo and material/equipment movement as needed.
- Loading and unloading racks off trailers with multiple destinations in proper order with even distribution of loads.
- Stores, receives finished goods and rotation of materials and supplies to prevent minimum loss due to obsolescence, deterioration, and destruction using proper FIFO (first in, first out).
- Ensure pallet loads are properly stacked, banded, wrapped, and loaded to prevent loss or damage in transit and assures quantities, packaging and labeling is complete and accurate.
- Maintain control of inventory processing to achieve improve and maintain inventory accuracy. Operates required electronic inventory systems to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Passes MIOSHA test and follows all Magna and Federal rules and procedures for glass handling, material handling, and other safety procedures.
- Follows and implements duties including those specified under the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MiOSHA).
- Seeks out and corrects unsafe acts and hazardous conditions, ensuring all safety and non-safety plant rules and regulations are followed.
- Ensures adherence to established quality, safety and housekeeping standards.
- Reviews and adheres to all health and safety, environmental, and quality standards, policies and procedures.
- Responds immediately to items brought to his/her attention with respect to hazards, defects, incidents or non-compliance issues.
- Attends Environmental, Health and Safety training.
- Performs all work in compliance with Magna and Magna Engineered Glass Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures as well as all federal, State and local laws; promptly report any hazardous condition or workplace injury to immediate supervisor or EHS designate.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to complete approved lift truck training program and pass the retesting requirements every 3 years.
- Must have proven work record establishing ability and competence in
- Planning and following work schedule and prescribed procedures.
- Working independently without direct supervision.
- Initiative and organization skills
- Must have demonstrated skills and competence in:
- interaction/interpersonal skills
- general math – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
- operation of all material handling equipment
- Able to do necessary lifting and moving cartons and material 50 – 100 lbs and move 55-gallon drums, up to 700 lbs. with a hand truck.
- 1 to 3 years Material Handler/Warehouse experience desired but not required.
- 1 to 3 years previous experience using Shipping/Receiving, computerized Inventory Systems
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in preparing and processing documentation and conducting inventories.
- Strong computer knowledge of ERP systems and third-party shipping software
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, QAD and any customer portal as needed.
- Able to maintain accurate records.
- Skills and ability to learn to operate CRT, PCs, Radio Frequency terminal, and required computerized material.
- Record keeping systems.
- Able to work flexible hours as required by work schedules.
- Able to work as a team to support the manufacturing, shipping and receiving areas; the emphasis is on the team performance not the individual performance. Hence, they must be aware of each other’s limitations and assist each other to achieve effective material movement.
