Position Summary

The Industrial Design intern supports technical work related to industrial design activities from concept through production, including engineering changes. Participates in continuous improvement efforts. Researches, recommends, and implements or improves new and/or existing processes, materials, technologies, and equipment. 

Key Functions & Responsibilities

  • Sit-in on consultations and meetings to determine requirements for designs. 
  • Researches the various ways our products can be used.
  • Sketch ideas or create renderings. Present these visual designs to your team and supervisor. 
  • Use computer software (CAD) to develop virtual models of different designs. 
  • Create physical prototypes of your designs and present them to your team and supervisor.
  • Assists with examining materials and manufacturing requirements to determine production costs. 
  • Works with other specialists, such as engineers and manufacturers, to evaluate whether their design concepts will fill needs at a reasonable cost. 
  • Evaluate product safety, appearance, and function to determine if a design is practical. 
  • Assist in presenting designs and demonstrating prototypes to clients for approval.
  • Assumes other projects and other duties as assigned by the Global Director of Advanced Product Development.

Key Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a 4-year University working toward a degree in Industrial Design or related field. 
  • Have a readily available portfolio of sample design work to share. 
  • Possess strong sketching/rendering skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to conceptualize, coordinate, integrate internal data, and clearly articulate concepts, ideas, and other issues relating to design engineering. 
  • Skills with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Valid drivers license mandatory.
