Role Summary

Supports manufacturing by improving company and department efficiency in a safe, high quality and productive manner, and is accountable for quality and housekeeping goals.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize statistical and problem solving knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret control charts (SPC) and other statistical tools to take appropriate containment actions.
  • Help provide training for associates in process control methods.
  • Report any nonconforming product to the area leader and QA immediately.
  • Perform inspections and or verify that inspected work and records conform to requirements of LMV’s Quality Plan, other applicable standards, codes and customer requirements.
  • Initiate containments as required and maintain responsibility for containments until a clear report on the status is completed to pass on to the QA.
  • Help develop gauging instructions.
  • Perform assembly line check fixture and SPC inspections.
  • Maintain all equipment used for dimensional and weld inspection.
  • Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and analysis of spot welds using Ultra Sonic weld inspection equipment.
  • Perform correlation of NDT and destructive testing to ensure valid NDT results.
  • Interact with other departments to reach a consensus on problem cause, action plans, and corrective action.
  • Maintain welding, weld destruct and non-destruct equipment.
  • Assist with sample submission.
  • Maintain clean, safe, organized work area.
  • Maintain close communication with Engineers, Weld Inspectors, QA, and Production associates.
  • Conduct shift carry over with other associates.
  • Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example. Follows and supports LMV Automotive Systems and Magna’s operating principles, including:

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Work well with others; build and maintain positive associate relations.
  • Prepare, read and interpret written reports, instructions, procedures and guidelines.
  • Manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimum direct supervision.
  • Work flexible hours and overtime.
  • Calculate figures and amounts, such as percentages and proportions.
  • Effectively use computer and software as required.
  • Work well with power cutting tools, torches, air chisels, and Ultra Sonic weld inspection equipment.
  • Pass a Near Vision Acuity and Color Contrast Differential examinations.

Education, Skills and Experience Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Above average computer skills
  • Must have experience with GMAW and RSW applications
  • Must receive and maintain Level I NDT certification in UT.
  • Knowledge of SPC as it relates to sheet metal stampings and assemblies.
  • Must have experience using standard measurement, inspection, and testing equipment in the inspection of sheet metal parts and assemblies.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 40 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. 
  • Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.
  • Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical and other environmental hazards.
  • Must pass a Near Vision Acuity test and a Color Contrast Differentiation exam. 

Environmental Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in various locations within and outside the manufacturing plant.
  • Must be able to rotate working shifts and weekend overtime to meet department requirements with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Exposed regularly to elements such as temperature and noise.    
  • Safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Must be comfortable with working at heights and within confined spaces.
