Role Summary

The Assistant Production Manager position is to plan, organize and control production for their assigned shift to ensure that parts are produced efficiently, on time, within budget and to standard. Responsible for providing training and facilitating process improvements as needed to ensure World Class Manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Assistant Production Manager reports directly to the Production Manager and is responsible to provide communication and reporting of the Department/shift progress/results in achieving divisional goals; and the regular operation of the department.
  • Manage and supervise production employees in a production environment.
  • Manages the complete shift with Area Leaders, Team Leaders, and direct production employees.
    • Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; interviewing, hiring, and training employees; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees.
  • Oversee shift production, maintenance, materials and quality groups making sure that products are produced on time and are of good quality. Escalating to proper staff when needed per escalation policy
  • Displays willingness to make decisions; Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; Supports and explains reasoning for decisions; Includes appropriate people in decision-making process; Makes timely decisions.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Degree in business administration, management, engineering, industrial technology or related field or combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Intermediate computer skills required.
  • Ability to communicate with others, both verbal and written.
  • Able to prepare, read, write and interpret reports, instructions, procedures and business correspondence.
  • Able to clearly and effectively respond to questions from management, employees, suppliers and customers.
  • Able to manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work flexible hours/shifts,

Additional Information

  • Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and procedures, promoting and practicing safety first policy, including housekeeping
  • Work out and implement standard Work Instructions for production operations and ensure that they are adhered to.
  • Monitor the production processes and adjusting schedules as needed.
  • Ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments including Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Logistics and Management.
  • Achieve employee opinion survey score of 85% but no less than 70% by:
  • Determine and implement improvements to the production process.
  • Monitors scrap material costs and finds ways to improve and minimize.
  • Ensures rework is complete and quarantine is kept to an acceptable operating level.
