Role Summary

Responsible for the continuous improvement of MSC’s HS&E programs, policies and procedures in order to provide our employees with a safe and healthful work environment. As well as, supporting MSC’s overall human resources strategies to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees.

Key Responsibilities

•    Must be familiar with all procedures pertaining to Health, Safety and Environmental
•    Maintain current knowledge of government, legal, and corporate legislation and/ or guidelines
•    Ensure compliance of plant programs, policies, and procedures with HS&E legislation and corporate policy
•    Conduct and review accident and environmental investigations and ensures that proper preventative measures are in place
•    Perform regular physical inspections of the workplace and address worker concerns
•    Environmental inspections – Action plan – Follow-up – Report to Magna Corporate
•    Develop, implement, and maintain HS&E programs policies and standards used to reduce the frequency and severity of workplace injuries, illness, disease, and adverse environmental conditions
•     Responsible for the maintenance of OSHA requirements including employee training and maintenance of the SDS binders
•    Issues safety rules and is responsible for posting of such, where applicable
•    Will establish and maintain an Environmental Management System
•    Investigate and initiate work stoppage in the event of the existence of unsafe working conditions
•    The cost-conscious management of BWC claims by filing forms on time etc.
•    Keep accurate documentation of workplace accidents, injuries, BWC claims, and lost time statistics. Keep management informed of workplace HS&E conditions and how well target objectives are being met through the Magna Health &Safety and Environmental audits
•    Make recommendations on improving H&S conditions in the workplace through implementing changes to existing programs or the introduction of new programs
•    Leads Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) with the resolution of concerns, update lost time statistics
•    Facilitate timely return to work from BWC & LTD absences. Liaison with employee and physicians to keep abreast of “fit to return” dates to regular or modified duties
•    Monitor and facilitate the effective utilization of the modified duties
•    Provide direction for occupational hygiene concerns and hazardous material management (S.D.S)
•    Maintain all Physical Demands analysis and hazard assessments
•    Maintain all ergonomic assessment information and work with the Manufacturing department to ensure ergonomic assessments and action items are in place
•    Conducts HS&E training and awareness meetings and co-ordinates training from outside sources
•    Address all employee concerns and inquiries. Ensure fair and equitable treatment of employees is practiced in all interactions and dealings
•    Provide guidance and instruction to employees and managers on Human Resources programs and systems as required
•    Responsible to protect own health and safety by working in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures
•    Other duties as assigned by Manager
•    Must adhere to all MAFACT requirements
•    Adheres to the IATF16949 Standard as required
•    Must comply with all ISO 14001 (Environmental) and OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety) systems and standards as it pertains to their work


Key Qualifications/Requirements

•    University Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
•    Post secondary certificate/ diploma in Human Resources Management 
•    2-5 years experience in Human Resources or related field
•    Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, 
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills
•    Excellent organizational skills with the ability to lead meetings, conduct training and to present information in an advisory capacity
•    Experience with HRIS Systems
•    Demonstrated ability to handle difficult people
•    Ability to meet deadlines
•    Ability to implement programs on a plant wide level
