Role Summary

The Apprentice will maintain all equipment to required standards and be responsive to line calls and equipment failures. The Apprentice routinely performs work independently and must be able to work in an environment with many distractions, maintaining a high level of accuracy and safety, while performing their duties

Key Responsibilities

•    Provide support in troubleshooting, repairing, and making system improvements (optimization), to ensure quality and efficiencies within the department
•    Analyze, record, chart and maintain all documentation for maintenance records, projects, and departments, including generating work orders and updates to CMMS or Manager+
•    Participate in cross-functional training (multi-skilling) activities related to other trades, within the organization
•    Demonstrate a sense of urgency in achieving results
•    Perform preventative maintenance to defined schedules
•    Assist and support in all other technical areas, where required
•    Ensure all operator safety devices function properly on completion of repairs, modifications, and installations
•    Maintain a clean and environmentally safe workshop and production lines
•    Perform other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

•    Candidates will have a Certificate of Apprenticeship or possess a recognized equivalent (testing to validate abilities may be required)
•    Apprentices will be required to provide proof of educational requirements completed towards their current apprenticeship
•    Apprentices will work under the guidance of a qualified Journeyman (trade specific)
•    Demonstrated knowledge of English, both oral and written
•    Demonstrated knowledge of Mathematics
•    Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational and interpersonal skills
•    Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
•    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
•    Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment
•    Ability to work all shifts
•    Ability to work to deadlines and support multiple demands
•    Ability to uphold confidentiality
•    Ability to work in locations inside and outside of the Modatek facility
•    Ability to work overtime to meet customer requirements

Additional Requirements
•    Apprentices must provide proof of Z462 Arc Flash Certification training is an asset
•    Provides support for the testing, repairing and calibration of electric and electronic components
•    Develop controls drawings and design concepts 
•    Ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics
•    Maintain and upgrade PLC software and assist in training Team Member’s on electric equipment, where required
•    Respond and support all electrical maintenance requirements within the department
•    Know and understand process documentation and customer specific requirements, as they relate to the job function

Additional Requirements
•    Demonstrated knowledge of basic electrical
•    Basic machining skills (mills, lathes and grinders)
•    Demonstrated ability to use measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers and calipers)
•    Demonstrated knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics, pumps, gear boxes, bearing, seals and alignment of couplings
•    Demonstrated knowledge of welding (mig, stick, brazing, oxyacetylene)
•    Demonstrated knowledge of rigging and man-lifts
•    Ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics
•    Basic knowledge of chillers, compressors, and centrifuges
•    Know and understand process documentation and customer specific requirements, as they relate to the job function

Located in Milton, Ontario, Modatek Systems is a division of Magna International. At Modatek, our dedicated team produce chassis systems utilizing innovative hydroforming, automated welding, and electrostatic coating processes within a large, safety-focused facility.
